I think it's stupid to pull a starting pitcher after 8.2 innings of no hit ball, regardless of pitch counts.  I also think it would be stupid to bench a guy who has a home run, triple and double in his three at bats so far in a game.  That's all there is to it.  Although the consensus "early on" in HBD is that people want pitch counts to be followed religiously (I don't remember that, and I was was around pretty early), I don't see a problem with a "pull/not pull during no-hitter" check box in player or manager settings.

I think it's stupid to put trivial individual accomplishments over the best interests of a team's 162 game regular season.

But then, that's just my opinion.

I think it's stupid to get worked up over something like this.

I had my pitcher set to pull at 110 pitches, and the computer pulled him at 110 pitches!

WAAAHHHH!H!!!!

I did about 5 minutes of research to find this article - http://insidepulse.com/2010/08/18/the-big-orange-guys-top-5-top-5-pitchers-to-have-been-pulled-from-no-hitters/. It outlines each recorded instance of a pitcher being pulled with a no-hitter going. In 3 of the instances the pitches had very recently recovered from injuries in their throwing arms. Another instance was the 2nd day after a lockout shortened spring training in 1990. The final two were games in which the pitcher was pinch-hit for late because their teams were actually losing close games. So, in four of the examples the risk of injury was elevated due to the circumstances surrounding the situation and the other two examples were situations where the team needed runs. I agree with pulling the pitcher in those circumstances but under normal circumstances (no recent injury, team winning) I think most, if not all managers would leave the guy in there and I can't find any evidence to suggest otherwise.

I think some logic could be implemented to allow him to pitch past his pitch count if at least 8.1 innings have been recorded when he reaches his max. If the games goes into extra, he gets pulled.
I'm more of  the 'don't care about no hitters' type, but I understand those that are. I think the above suggestion is reasonable.

So, tim, are you recommending that WifS figures out a way to program that a pitcher with the no-hitter has an injury history gets pulled?

I would like WIS to figure out a way to program that a certain pitcher gets a more lenient pitch count / hook circumstances if his family is in the crowd.

I would like to have the ability to be able to set a minimum and maximum pitch count, after which my pitcher will be removed from the game.

I would like WifS to program that any pitcher I have who will lose the game not pitch in said game.

You're boring. That's already available. We're discussing ridiculous options we'd like WIS to include so that the game fits our exact specifications better, rather than spend time working on things that could actually benefit the game.

I would like an option to be able to set pitch counts for my left handed relievers in road games on odd-numbered Tuesdays.

That better?

Much better. And I agree, that would be nice.

No, I'm suggesting that a pitcher with a no-hitter be allowed to go over his max pitch count, just like the OP suggested. It could be as easy as adjusting the pull rating to 0 or something to that effect. I don't think anyone would give a pull rating of 0 to someone just coming off an injury but it would still be up to the individual manager to decide if he wanted to risk his pitchers health for the sake of a no hitter. Since when is making HBD more realistic a bad thing?
