800 Rated D3 Player? Topic

Dominican in season 12 Naismith... Coach was Pcalir2. After quite a few games, because of the uproar from just about every other coach,  they stripped his recruits and wins If I recall corrcectly (record ended up at 4-22)

how was it fair to strip his team bare?    he just recruited the players in the player pool.

this was around the time I began, if I recall, he used boosters to take advantage of a glitch in the game, I think his players died in a plane crash?  one of the real long time vets would have to confirm that, might have been 7 or 8 or 9 years ago?

I'm not sure why you think that guy is going up another 90 points when he didn't his junior year.

By the way, how the hell is he an A- in three different defenses?

Obviously was a JUCO or transfer.  Maybe he played a combo defense somewhere, or maybe one is HS, one is his first school, and one is from CMHMS.  Not too hard to fathom...  Good example of a guy with a high overall who isn't an incredible player, though.  At least offensively.  He can guard anybody in D3...  And it's not like he can't score, but his offensive numbers are nothing to write home about and it doesn't particularly surprise me...

He won't have to go up 90. He'll get something (maybe 20-30) in off-season improvements. If he gets 20 he'd only need 71 his senior year.

20 is more likely.

Either way, he'll have to up 75 or so.  He went up like 85 this year.  I'm not saying he can't do it, but it seems like a stretch to think that's a lock to happen.

Interesting to see, I guess.

I'm completely serious jones...  Look at his line.  Regardless of schedule, scoring 14.9 PPG on 44/39% shooting with 2.7 assists and 1.7 turnovers per game isn't the kind of out-of-this-world scoring that people who focus heavily on overalls might expect from a D3 player over 700.  Your center, who is a 573 overall, has had a more efficient offensive season.  And I'm pretty sure that given your choice, with his athleticism and speed, you would have preferred him to have his BH and Per swapped.  Would probably make him a better scorer.  Or if some of that Per went into LP. He wasn't an All-American, not even an Honorable Mention.  This despite the fact that he's the 12th-highest overall-rated player in Knight and the highest rated PG.  Which doesn't mean I wouldn't rather have him on my team than some of the guys who do get those awards...  But remember narcotico's guard who won all the votes for best D3 player in the new engine a little while back?  He was only in the 660s, but he blew your guy away.  Overalls are misleading because of WE and durability and everybody theoretically knows that but we're still a ton of posts into a thread about an 800 overall and if that's what a new person sees coming into the forums for the first time and they don't see any mitigating posts it could be misleading...

Agreed that overalls can be misleading due to dur and WE, but I think aejones guy could have had better stats if he didn't shoot so many 3s. If he's set to a -1 his fg% would be close to .500, and with a ton of fta.

Another guy with misleading overall, but potential 800? He gained 99 his first season, 80 in his 2nd, now at 679 starting his JR year. Despite the high rating, he's pretty mediocre:

Are you playing him at PF or SF?  I'm a little confused as to why he got so few rebounds with 70 REB and 55 ATH.  Donald Petit is only marginally better and grabbed almost twice as many, albeit against a rather weak SOS.

He's been at PF so far. Idk why he's not grabbing boards either.

Guys, when you talk about best teams and players ever in D3, there's one thing you need to remember.  I realize that most of the coaches playing now weren't around for this (Alblack is one who was and can verify.  Vandydave too, although he doesn't seem to frequent the forums much anymore), but a D3 coach found a glitch in the system and recruited nothing but highly rated D1 players to his D3 squad.  Won all his games by ridiculous margins.

Was it legit?  No, but it happened.  Do we count that team in the "Best Ever" argument?  Probably shouldn't, but they existed.  "Best Player" argument?  Probably shouldn't, but they existed.  Of course, that was back in the peach basket era of HD and a lot has changed since then, but the fact is, none of the teams or players that you guys are nominating for the "Best Ever" could've touched that squad.  Not trying to be an ***, just telling it how it is.

My thinking is, since the engine (and overall game, for that matter) have changed so much since the start, the "Best Ever" arguments should be specified by things like Pre-potential/Post-potential, Pre-engine change/Post-engine change, things like that.  Hell, when the game first started, a coach didn't even have control over which players took three point attempts.  It was a team setting, not individual and you might have your power forwards and centers launching nothing but shots from behind the arc.  Game's come a long way........

I loved the uproar of that team.  Wasn't it in Puerto Rico?  Or are we talking about different things?
