"Chara crossed the line with hit on Pacioretty" Topic

Ok homer, you go back believing that the game was ok and that big meanie Chara tried to kill the guy on purpose.

EXACTLY THE POINT.

"Blame the game."  You got it, death.

Speed.  Training.  Helmets.  Nutrition.  Cardio.  Protective equipment.  Coaching.  Expectations.  System.  Culture.

Bigger faster players.  Young dumbasses who feel invincible.  Coaches who demand an *** busting 40 seconds.

Max should not try to make that play.  But if he doesn't, Coach sits his *** down.  He's been taught that since he was a child.

Chara should back off.  But if he gets beat to the outside, Coach sits his *** down.  He's been taught that since he was a child.

And then you want to ask, "How come he got hurt?"  ****, man, hockey is dangerous.  Always has been.  Worse than ever now.  That's why we admire these kids, because they're doing things we can't.

But don't ask "How come he got hurt."

Bingo. You can't say "this is the way we want it played", then crucify someone when it all goes wrong.

If this happened in 1976, then 20 games. Easy. But it's ok now, right? Plastering someone into the boards is ok. Somewhere along the line, that stopped being a penalty except in the most extreme circumstances.

And again, I doubt it changes. There will be some attempt at no shots to the head, but until you stop charging rhynos by calling charging and boarding again, then it's going to happen again.

1) Max should win the race to the puck [which he did]

2) Chara should hit him into the boards [which he did not]

3) Chara should NOT shove and twist his face into the boards [which he did]

oh yeah he`s a genius

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says there's no need to "over-legislate" head hits.

Speaking after a U.S. congressional panel discussion Thursday on encouraging American kids to get into hockey, Bettman pointed to a trend this season.

"What's interesting ... is that the rise in concussions in the preliminary data from this season seem to be coming from accident events, collisions, players falling and banging into other things, not from head hits," he told reporters. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=357385

On the day Kubina gets 3 games for a shot to head on Bolland.....1 smart dude

Right. Chara purposely, in the 1/4 second he had to decide this, decided to shove his face EXACTLY onto a 2 inch wide metal stantion.

Good call winnie.

For his next trick, he's going poke someone's eye out with his pinkie finger while skating by at full speed.

so with that thinking...i guess former norris winner thought patches was going to dump the puck back into his own zone....instead of trying to beat my slow *** to the outside

I'm confident in saying 26 current injuries. Maybe more.

26 CURRENT injuries. Ridiculous.

It takes no more than a split second to make a decision and act on it.  In this case, I doubt Chara planned on ramming the guy into the post.  But, in a millisecond, he saw an opportunity and pushed his opponent towards the pillar.  It happened so fast, Chara can likely honestly say he didn't mean to hurt the guy because he did not have time to think about the consequences.  Heck, I've done something similar purely out of reaction (the guy had just decked my brother) and not conscious thought about what I was doing.  I am still responsible for my actions though.  Chara should have been, too.
