Engine Problems When Running a Defensive Team Topic

Not especially, i inherited a team bereft of ML talent/future ML talent and didn't sign IFAs, it's notoriously hard to get talent in MG and drafting wasn't spectacular. In addition i used it as a testing ground for running a running team in OKC.

Sorry, I don't want to hear your excuses for being below .500 almost 2000 games into your MG career.

And I was under the impression that the player rest heirarchy ONLY applied to "in game" substitutions like "leading by X or more runs after the Xth inning"
If a player is below his auto-rest setting YOU should manually make the change to your line-up.
Not the case. The Rest depth chart applies both to who replaces an Auto-Rested starter, and who comes in mid-game in a blowout.

This hierarchy is used in conjunction with the individual player AutoRest setting to decide who starts at what position and is also used during the game in blowout and injury/ejection situations. For instance, if Gomes is the LF in your starting lineup but his fatigue is below his AutoRest setting, then the #2 choice in the hierarchy would get the start instead. If he's not available, then the #3 guy gets the nod, etc.

I use Auto-Rest because I can't check every game to see if I have exactly the lineup I want. If I were willing to play my starters at 95% it wouldn't be an issue, but I'm not.

The DH thing has easy work-around - just strip any secondary positions from your DHs. But it's still annoying that the engine asks you to set Rest hierarchies, which it will then cheerfully ignore if it gets the chance.

The C in CF thing has no work-around though. Having a deeper bench just makes it less likely that the situation will occur again (and it's already fairly unlikely.) But it's also a clear error in programming logic. The "you'd ***** if your resting starter came in and got hurt" argument is BS. If you were actually managing the game, gave your starting CF the day off, the game went to extra innings and your resting starter was the only CF left available to you, of course you'd use him. Anyone arguing to the contrary is just trying to stir up ****.

You might not *****, but I can assure you the majority of users on here would...myself included.

I rest a player to avoid injury.  If I don't mind him getting a brief appearance, I just set him to "Bench".  Simple.

I have to agree with iain.   If I were managing an actual team, I'd probably have to decide if I was going to play my resting CF.   If I was giving him the day off because I wanted him "fresh" for the next series, I'd play him in the extra inning game.   If I was resting him because his knee was yapping at him, I'd do something else.  You can't have the "one size fits all" in a situation like you describe.   And, as you know, the sim has limitations.

You could micro-manage and keep him out of the game except in extreme situations.  Bench him and remove him from rest, PH and D-replacement hieracrchies.
