This sort of thing can easily be flipped around too.  Suppose I've clinched my division, and game 162 is against you, while you're fighting for the wildcard.  And further suppose I'd rather play the other team you're battling with in the post-season than you (maybe we match up better against them).

I've got Milacki in my bullpen.  Am I allowed to start him against you, instead of whomever my regularly scheduled (but lesser effective SP) would have been?  Or does that give your WC opponent an unfair advantage?  I think 100 out of 100 owners on this site would say I'm allowed to pitch Milacki.

I'm in first place and my last 8 games are against 2 division foes battling for the last WC spot. I haven't yet clinched the division and the 2nd place team is my next opponent. I win the 4 games against him and thus clinch. I now rest my starters. Last 4 games are against 3rd place team. He faces my reserves, passes the 2nd place team and wins the WC. My fault? Possibly! Biggest question is... Does resting starters at the end of a season matter anymore than doing it during the season when playoff implications aren't so clear?

Anyway....  If I was the 2nd place team I would be p*ssed. Sorry, that's how I see it!

I don't see them as different at all. In both cases I've made a strategic choice in how to use my players that meaningfully changes your chance of making the playoffs.

As I said earlier, we'll need to agree to disagree here. If anyone else has something new to add, please feel free, but my guess is it's pointless to continue to debate this issue.

doubletruck, what you are essentially implying is that an owner take a more active approach to settle a playoff spot either one way or another. If this happens to go against your team it's a problem, if it falls in favor of your team it's not. I have been on the receiving end of both scenarios. My personal feeling is that I trust an owner to manage his team the best way he knows how to give him the best shot at winning in the playoffs. I think your taking this a little too personal, my feeling is nobody is out there deliberately trying to scuttle your team(s), it is just the way the game is played.

It's just the way I play the game, but if I am playing  a team fighting for a playoff spot they will see my best possible lineup. I expect nothing less from anyone else.

I was simply trying to align starting pitching for the playoffs by resting them in favor of mop-ups that wouldn't be used. I also rested hitters that needed rest (less then 100%), which included 2 pinch hitters, but starters at 100% played. Normally I pay closer attention to the other races then I did in this league but this week I was extremely busy with having guests at the house and school. I try to keep my team rested but competitive when it affects races. It was definitely nothing personal for or against either team in contention. However, I do reserve to right to align my team the best I see fit to try to win a World Series.

(It's worked out well so far... I'm down 0-2 in the first round...  )

I have to admit this entire thread is confusing to me. I don't understand why any owner who is in the fortunate position to get his team in great shape for the playoffs has to now take the politically correct stance of giving the other competitors an "equal opportunity" to make the post season. Frankly it's ridiculous and sounds like nothing more than sour grapes. If my team does not make the playoffs the fault lies entirely with me and my team and  no one else regardless of the circumstances.
