Latest an IFA can post? Topic

14 seasons ago, this guy appeared after the minor league regular season ended and was signed with just the 9 games left in the regular season. He was also fully developed at signing. I will always remember him as I had just used up my prospect dollars a couple days earlier on a significantly inferior player fearing that I would end up with nothing.

14 years ago, You're telling me you'd sit on money waiting for this to happen? That's like betting that the world will end on saturday.

Signing with 9 games left in the season sounds like just about my experience with the latest I've seen IFA's show up... probably showed up 4-5 days prior, which is 12-15 games, which means he showed up after about 140 games in the ML season.  I am pretty certain the latest I have seen an IFA show up is after 144 games in the ML season.... which lines up with the end of the minor league season.

Jeez, chuckster, you're all over the place.  Go back and read the thread.   Slowly.

This from the International Prospects negotiation help page, "Once discovered, your franchise will have one week to outbid any other franchises that may have also discovered the player. If a week goes by and nobody signs the player, all the other franchises will have a crack at him, too. Remember to be patient, though. Some of the best prospects may not be uncovered until late in the season."

So if this is true (bolded part), why don't we see more people getting IFA in-box alerts 1 week after end of regular season?

Where's it say you can sign IFA's up until the world series. All the IFA's (the ones on the negotiating screen) disappeared near  the start of the Playoffs.

Retracted

Nah - they don't disappear. Guys in the league have prospect money to burn, and there's no where else to burn it so they buy the top remaining intl's to stock their minor league system. Players don't disappear after regular season ends, they just get bought up. We're in the playoffs right now and I can still sign an intl.

+1.

When I have leftover budget in the present season, I use it to stock up the minors for next season.  I hope not to have to do that, but a fair amount of time I will.  Sometimes I'll even dump $5M on a 5th rounder's ridiculous demands only because I have nothing else to do with the money...

i had a guy show up with about 5 games left in negro league a while back.  he was a good RF and signing him helped me avoid wasting a ton of $$.

I'm not sure if you're being intentionally dense or if it's natural.   I'll let someone else take it from here just in case you're playing games.

I'll take a shot at this - regarding the bolded part anyway.

Your scouts will or will not discover the IFA.  If your scouts did not discover him and a week goes by, you will not get a note in your inbox.  It's up to you to be aware who's on the IFA list.  If he's a good one, you don't have to worry.  If your scout didn't see him, he'll be signed before ever hitting the list for all the franchises to see.

Thanks padna. So follow up?, when original alert comes in (say it goes to five teams), are those 5 teams the only ones that will see him for the initial signing period, or will other teams "pop up" along the way?

I guess another way of wording it would be, When my scouts alert comes in is that the IFA's introduction to the world, or could other teams already be bidding on him?

And my previous quote says retracted cause I went to one of my worlds to see I actually did sign players as described by the two helpful individuals.

When Mike refers to the date that IFA appearances end, he's talking about the following menu progression: World Office > Schedules > World Schedule.  This is a screen that probably no one outside of rookies has any real reason to look at, so most people probably forget it's there.
