Did Palin make Bachmann viable? Topic

Bachmann wouldn't want a "free pass". Just like Palin, the more she gets 'attacked' by the media (i.e. they tell the truth about her) the more it will feed the persecution complex of the dead-enders in the GOP and the more they will love her.

She clearly pushed it when she said one.

There needs to be more drilling and she supports that. If she missed the specific amount does that matter?

It always amazes me that the media is always willing to go over anything a Conservative says with a laser beam focus, but things that the Actual President says are never questioned. No one ever analyzes his stimulus.

So when you are calling someone, not on the main point of their statement, but on some specific numbers, we see a hostile media.

Or as Palin calls it...The Lame Stream Media!
It was no biggie anyway...just a throw away line.

Lets talk about what makes a gaffe important.

Palin or Bachmann makes a slip and it gets to all the news outlets. They start to add up in the minds of people and they start to think you are a "flake".

On the flip side Obama, who is the president, makes a horrible gaffe addressing soldiers about a medal of honor winner. No coverage anywhere.

Maybe Obama isnt smarter than Bachman, he is just covered up better.
6/28/2011 7:28 AM
Maybe it has nothing to do with smart. I think she is bat-**** crazy and he is not.
6/28/2011 11:03 AM
Maybe Obama is BS crazy.

He forgets how many states we have, talks to dead people, doesnt know basic geography and doesnt know when he was born.

These are all gaffes Obama made.

I wonder where the media attacks were? I wonder where the SNL skits were?

Obama won because people were tried of Bush and his whole campaign was based on McCain is Bush and you hate Bush. They are already getting the slogans ready..."We cant go back to Bush"!

I know in my heart that if Obama had lost, and the event shocked McCains heart and he dies of a Heart attack the next day and we had President Palin since then we would be a stronger and better nation!

The biggest hurdle for Michele Bachmann to overcome in running for the Republican nomination is her penchant for making over-the-top statements for political effect which turn out not only to be untrue but ill-advised as well. She could get away with this as a backbencher in congress but now message discipline is paramount, as is focus. Her appearance on Fox this weekend was focused, and she benefitted a lot from being able to play the victim from Chris Wallace's clumsiness of calling her "a flake". Another appearance on CBS's Face The Nation was less assured, and at times cringe-worthy. This one with George Stephanopoulos today on Good Morning America casts real doubts whether she can handle the scrutiny from being seen as a legitimate presidential candidate, as ridiculous as it is to even write those words in connection with Michele Bachmann.

Her defensiveness and unwillingness to ever, ever admit wrong is Palin-esque. It's not a trait or a habit Americans will find endearing.

Stephanopoulos: But that’s not what you said. You said that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery.

Bachmann: Well if you look at one of our Founding Fathers, John Quincy Adams, that’s absolutely true. He was a very young boy when he was with his father serving essentially as his father’s secretary. He tirelessly worked throughout his life to make sure that we did in fact one day eradicate slavery….

Stephanopoulos: He wasn’t one of the Founding Fathers – he was a president, he was a Secretary of State, he was a member of Congress, you’re right he did work to end slavery decades later. But so you are standing by this comment that the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery?

Bachmann: Well, John Quincy Adams most certainly was a part of the Revolutionary War era. He was a young boy but he was actively involved.

She said that with a straight face.

On abolishing the minimum wage:

Stephanopoulos: Let me try one more time, so you are saying that the minimum wage is one of those regulations you’d take a look at, you’d try to eliminate it?

Bachmann: Well what I’m saying is that I think we need to look at all regulations, whatever--whatever ones are inhibiting job growth that’s what we need to --

Stephanopoulos: And the minimum wage is one of them?

[Long pregnant pause here.]

Bachmann: All regulations George. I think every department. We have just too much expansion of government and so what we need to do is tamp that down so that the American people can keep more of what they make.

Such performances cast real doubts whether she can last through to the primary season. That would be a real shame because she, like few others, illuminate what the modern-day Republican party has become.

Tom Petty has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, demanding that she stop using his 1977 hit “American Girl” at campaign appearances.

Bachmann used the track during her Monday stop in Waterloo, Iowa.

It was a rough day for Bachmann in Iowa. She also confused movie legend John Wayne with serial killer John Wayne Gacy and John Adams with John Quincy Adams.

According to Rolling Stone, Petty also asked George W. Bush not to use his song “I Won’t Back Down” during his 2000 campaign. He did, however, allow Hillary Clinton to use “American Girl” during the 2008 campaign.

It’s pretty clear where Petty’s political association lie.

Republicans, as might be expected, have had a tough time getting permission to use pop songs during campaigns.

The Rolling Stone article points out that in 2008, Sarah Palin used the song “Barracuda” by Seattle band Heart as she strode onto the stage at the Republican National Convention.

“Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women,” Heart said in a statement. “We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late Seventies as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. (The ‘barracuda’ represented the business.) While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.”

Also in 2008, Jackson Browne sued John McCain’s campaign for using “Running on Empty” in a commercial. McCain was also asked by John Mellencamp to stop using “Little Pink Houses” and “Our Country.”

Did anyone ever do this to Obama. Did anyone ever follow up two or three times to try to trip him up?

And she seemed to keep it together. We are looking at all things and minimum wage is on the list. The founding fathers fought to eliminate slavery. The whole 3/5s thing was an attempt to limit the power of slave states.

She is looking at things in a way that the left cannot grasp. She is proud of the Rich White Men that founded America. No liberal can ever show pride in that.

Only the left? How about people who have some knowledge of history, or logic, or common sense?

Did you read and understand this sentence: “Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women,”?

How do you get hard core left wingers from that?  I think Ann & Nancy Wilson have the right to not authorize use of their work for people who don't share their own beliefs.  Doesn't make them left-wingers automatically.

Plus wouldn't using a song without getting the rights to do that be against some free market idea that you love?
6/29/2011 4:58 PM
It is pretty common for non profits to use copyrighted works for non commercial uses.

I respect the right of anyone to not have their works used by someone they oppose politically. Remember she didnt say we dont like her, she said she doesnt represent women. I think that clearly implies someone not politically alligned with the right.

6/29/2011 5:23 PM
No, liar, they didn't say Palin didn't represent women.
