early impressions for teams with 2 players...
scudmissle - David Robinson, Shawn Marion
The Admiral is one of my favorite players to build around... good paint scoring, great at getting to the line, good boards for someone with his offensive efficiency, great efg%, decent tov%, great defense. The Matrix is a nice compliment at the 3... defense, efficiency, some 3s, good boards for the position. Nice synergy thus far.
robocoach - Chris Paul, Kevin Love
I'm never a fan of cp3 this early, yet he gives you some great stuff. I just wish you could combine his rebounds, 3s & FTAs from his 09 season with the rest of his 08 season... neither season to me stands out as a top 5 sim PG season, yet if they were combined... good stuff. But they aren't. I really like the combination of him with Love, however. They will feed off of each other quite well: both are tier 3 scorers; both give you some threes; both rebound well for their positions (Love is almost unequaled). I don't see Love's lack of defense being a major issue. Great start with a lot of room to go many different directions with the rest of your picks.
bluenote75 - Magic Johnson, Dirk Nowitzki
I've always been a fan of Magic... Though I'm not a fan of Dirk. Usually I think you need Rodman or Moses to make Dirk work well. Maybe Magic's offensive rebounding will make up for the lack of Dirk on the boards. I love the offense these two bring individually, but I'm not sold on playing the two together.
sixernuggets - Dikembe Mutombo, Chauncey Billups
I felt like Mutombo went early, yet you got Billups later than he should have gone. Billups is the best non-rebounding PG (Lebron, Wade, Magic, Oscar, Kidd) in the sim. Nobody at any position gives you the combination of 3s with FTAs that he does... and then he really helps in the possession war by not turning the ball over much yet giving you a ton of assists. There are several versions that are useful in the sim, too. Ben Wallace does everything better than Mutombo except fg%, which shouldn't be a big factor with a tier-5 or 6 scorer.
dh555-(2) - Kevin Garnet, Julius Erving
My, oh my, how you are going to beast on the boards! Never cared for KG's offensive game (except his 07-08 season, which you are clearly NOT going to use since you want to play him at the 3). Also don't like Dr. J's offensive game (unless you have tons of threes at other positions). But possession wise, this is some legit scary ****.
theyard2 - Bill Russell, Tim Duncan
15 rings between them. Too bad that doesn't count for anything in the sim. I like both picks... Just not where you got one of them. I like Big Ben over Russell, but the more I think about it... it's not as black & white as that. The big difference for me is Russell's usage + efg% hurts worse than Wallace's, though I do like the extra 700 minutes you get out of Russ. Duncan (assuming you use the one that I'd use) is a slam dunk of a 2nd round pick. If you use the wrong one, though, I feel about him about like I feel about the Dream - not near as good in the sim as he is IRL.
ashamael - Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen
Mailman: best tier 1 scorer left at the time & best tier paint scorer left at the time. All of the people that should have gone ahead of him in both cats did (Wilt, Lebron, MJ for the first; Wilt, Moses, Howard, Barkley, Shaq, Kareem & Admiral for second). I've had great success using various versions of Malone before - he gives me everything I want in a first round pick: efg%, monster getting to the line, high enough usage so that I'm not restricted as to how I build the rest of my team. Pippen was the perfect compliment: great boards for a 2, 3rd tier usage, 53% efg%, 150+ 3pm, good defense & assists.
eleibowitz - Ben Wallace, Kevin Durant
Big Ben is a dynamite board-lord and defensive stopper. Love the pick, especially since you could get such a great offensive player in rd2. Too bad Durant falls just short of being a tier 1 scorer and is only 99% SG... still, his 09-10 season is amazing and is something I still want to try using sometime.
malone9975 - Kobe Bryant, Kevin McHale
I like this. You've got Kobe shooting you out of some games while McHale will be super consistent. Kobe's rebounding should help offset some of McHale's lack thereof, especially if you play the latter at the 3.
tarheel1991 - Jason Kidd, Elton Brand
Kidd is an A+ pick. Absolutely the best non-scoring PG in the sim. Brand is a super solid pick at the 3, giving you board advantage at two positions that often don't see it. Absolutely love this team thus far.
captainzen - Mel Daniels, John Stockton
Seems early for Daniels, but he's a solid big man that gives you lots of the stuff you need. Stockton (especially his 94-95 season) is amazing, but right now I look at this team and wonder who Stockton is going to be passing to. You've got two tier 4 scorers, so who's going to step up and score the ball?
jcred5 - Oscar Robertson, Hakeem Olajuwon
Love the Big O, h8 the Dream. I still feel like the Dream is a late 2/early 3 at best. I think Duncan would have been a much better fit here (the possessions he steals away from Big O will be better possessions. As it is, the Dream will be taking the majority of possessions while he's on the floor, and I'm not crazy about his offensive game in the sim).
