Yeah.  That's a great pitcher.  It's not really that much of a gamble.  Do you have Int'l Scouting and a good prospect budget?  If so, if he doesn't sign, you get a leg up on a top IFA this year.  Next year, maybe cut prospect budget, sign an expensive FA, sign your multiple #1s, and skip IFA.

It tells you on his player's card, who his agent is.

With that said, its kind of hard to follow current/active w/ that formatting and having them seperated by an entire page, but I'd take the SS (#2) over the pitcher.

If I'm reading things correctly, that pitcher will end up with a high 70s/low 80s control, great splits and velocity and 2 great pitch.  however he's going to have 3 average at best pitches and poor stamina, which means he won't be able to go deep into games.  Plus is his projected patience 4?  If you're in this for the long term, that means you get him until the end of his 1st big contract and he's hittng the FA market no matter what.  The #2 kid could be an acceptable SS defensively or a gold glover at 3b at worst.  His bat will be pretty solid, especially if he can get to an 80/80/80/80 defensive line at SS and he has a high patience rating, meaning you won't have to worry about his position for the next 20 seasons.

Of course 20 seasons of HBD is a long time in the real world, maybe 5 real life years, what are the odds you're still around that franchise in 5 years?  (what are the odds HBD is still viable in 5 real life years?)  Its a question worth asking, I like to approach things like I'm going to be around forever, which is my plan once I take over a team full bore, but in reality who knows.

what is your IFA scouting and prospect budget???  It may cost upwards of $12 mil to sign that pitcher, if he ever agrees to an increase price.  If the SS signs for slot money at the #2 pick, he'll cost you about $3.8 or $3.9 mil in prospect money (look at past drafts for the exact slot amount) which could be the difference b/w a solid IFA or a really good IFA depending on how much you have.  If you don't have $12 mil ready for the pitcher (and he may surprise and sign for slot the first time around, but you need to be prepared) then there is a chance he'll say he's willing to resign for an increased cost, and you'll be left w/o the money to cover his increased demands.

don't get me wrong, the pitcher will be pretty damn good, but there are certainly some question marks if he can be a true ace come playoff time in terms of taking you into the 7th or 8th inning.  He'll give you a great 6 innings, but will expose you to the soft underbelly of most teams, middle relief.  If he's sign for slot, I'd probably bump him up, but if he signs, its going to be expensive.  Of course if he doesn't sign, make sure to bump your scouting budget next season to make sure you see more options with next year's #2 pick.
