Do you decline OOC requests or pocket veto Topic

I just think its funny when the same coach sends you a request after denying so many previous requests. I do like the flood request theory though. nice!

I just make it a point to accept all requests sent my way unless it's for a week where I have a specific rivalry or conference challenge game pre-arranged. I figure if a coach is serious enough about the game to send out a challenge then I should support the player by accepting, otherwise we become a country club of sorts.

I'm confused. Who schedules human coached teams anymore?

As a low DI coach, I like to schedule other low DI teams that play in weak conferences and will put up 13-3 or 14-2 type records, but are not an almost guaranteed loss like scheduling a Big 6 team.

If the guy takes the time to send a requst I almost alway approve them. There are a few coaches that we play almost every year and we alternate home and away games. That makes it nice.

i generally accept everyone who offers me, good or bad. if the team is head and shoulders above me like texas the last couple seasons i get a better SOS. if they're bad i get a win against a human team

professor17 mentioned most of what I'm saying but I'll chime in to say I schedule in a similar manner.  I end up Pocket Vetoing quite a bit.  I do it for three reasons:

1. I don't like to schedule early.  I'd prefer to have a better feel for how good my team will be and also yours as well.  You might look like a good matchup at the beginning of the season but if my team develops and yours doesn't (or vice versa) I might feel differently at the end of the season.  To use a specific example, this past season I had two shooting guards that had high potential in perimeter shooting that would eventually become three point threats before they graduated but wouldn't necessarily be at the start of the next season.  I thought one would get there and the one that was work ethic challenged probably wouldn't  Turns out that neither developed fast enough and as such I scheduled a bit lighter than I otherwise would since I waited until the CT to schedule.  Those Pocket Vetoes weren't really that as much as me being uncertain for a long time and in the end I decided not to challenge myself against a couple of stronger teams that would exploit my weakness.

2. Even when I am certain it is a good matchup, I'm not certain I want to schedule you without knowing your schedule.  I have a good program at D3 and am regularly in the top 25.  When a team that looks to be borderline NT requests a game I'm typically interested; it's a game I'm likely to win and will help with the RPI.  But I also question a bit why that team is requesting to play me when I am quite likely to beat them .... and then I look and see that of the 10 non-conference games I'm the worst team scheduled and the team will end up being one of those that go 1-9, SOS 1.  Those teams don't help me at all so I want to make sure you aren't one of them.

3. If I don't know you, I don't get much satisfaction out of playing you.  You're better than a sim, but not by much and in some cases not at all.  I look forward to the non-conference games against coaches who have been around for at least a handful of seasons or have a resume in other worlds not folks I don't know at all.

I just sent all of you a request please accept now.

Seriously, I schedule during recruiting and only have a spot or two left if I'm waiting on someone and I forget. I never make it past a couple game into the OOC schedule before being done. Some of the things I look for are who you recruit, how many upperclassman and your history. I base everything off of this and whether to schedule you at home or away.

i just dont think its something you really need to worry about, dac. so many coaches schedule so differently, and at such different times - its silly for any coach to be upset that another coach ignored their request. now, i have seen a few posts around the CC over the years, where one coach asks another why they didn't accept their game. but its probably less than 5 in all my years, and usually from a newer coach... plus when you factor in the reality that you often have multiple requests at the same slot, you HAVE to reject somebody. i for one can't even tell you who i try to schedule, so i'd never know who rejected me in the first place. but i expect even for coaches who do pick carefully enough, 95% of them don't think anything of it if they don't get the game.

I don't accept anyone. If I want to play you, you'll know. I've had a few coaches site mailing me asking why I never accept/denie them every season.  I get a crap ton of requests a season and don't have the time to go through them all. If you/they are really worried then just ask them. 9 times out of 10 they will tell you they are waiting for other options/don't schd this early or whatever. Then you can decide to wait or move on.

You could always shotgun requests and request multiple people for the same slot
This is what I do.  After enough seasons of actually being silly enough to wait for responses that never came, I realized that you could try to schedule several teams for the same slot.  First one to accept gets the game.

I figure everyone has their own method of recruiting/scheduling and if they're focused on recruiting at the moment, it's my choice whether to wait on them or not.

To be fair, the non-con scheduling needs to be changed.  It's not easy to get to, and you could mark a game invitation email as "read" and then forget all about it.  It happens.  I'm the one who gets to decide if I wait or not.  There are a lot of good teams out there, many of whom will help your RPI.

Schedule requests that get sent out during recruiting are especially likely to not get noticed, unless one is specifically looking for them... a lot of people are focused on recruiting, not scheduling, at that time, and those requests are bound to get lost among literally dozens of HV/CV messages.
