yes he took the redshirt and I wanted to put him at SG next season
I'd probably go ~25 in conditioning, ~15 in BH/P to start, and either 1) drop 7 into either LP/Per depending on how you intend to use him on the offensive end or 2) give D the extra minutes if you have other offensive options for next season.

how am i supposed to do that? what categories do i lower his minutes in?

Everything else (except maybe FT). Something like:

90 Minutes - 25 C; 0 Reb; 15 FW; 0 LP; 8 Per; 15 BH; 15 P; 12 FT.

Take from that Per first and FW second (or opposite if you are focusing on offense) whatever you need for SH.

EDIT - actually, I'd probably just boot SH and let him make it up over summer school.

hmm interesting i normally would never put 0 in a category because it would go down....

Yup, it will drop. But, for example, even if his Reb drops a few points, it is more than serviceable at SG. Once his other categories have capped, you can move the minutes into Rebounding and jack that rating up as well. A lot depends on how you plan to use him. If you'd said SF, I'd have suggested a bit more balance, for example.

As I understand it, and people can feel free to correct me if I'm off on this but it matches my experience, *everyone* is eligible to start the new season when they are a returning player.

So, if you boot study hall now and the kid is an idiot, maybe he earns a 1.5 GPA this year and is ineligible. Well, that's fine, because you shouldn't be taking the redshirt off anyway. Before next year starts, he'll "attend summer school" and get that GPA up to the minimum 2.0. It will be just the bare minimum, so you'll have to keep a very close eye on it next year, but he should be able to play and start the season.

but if he's ineligible he can't practice... can he?

No, they practice and improve still, they just don't benefit from PT. But your guy is a RS, so he already won't benefit from PT this season.

this is incorrect. Ineligibles (whether recruited ineligibles or GPA ineligible, doesn't matter) do NOT practice, and do not improve.

What's his HS GPA? I'd strongly consider starting him with 5 or less SH minutes, and 0 if his HS GPA is above 3.0... then increase if needed at the update.

wronj, do you have a source for that?

I've had a number of guys go GPA ineligible (not recruited, since I am D3) and I don't recall *ever* seeing improvement stop completely. Most recently my player Kamensky from just last season. His improvement slowed while he an idiot, but it didn't stop completely.

James (and wronj) just bumped another thread (link) for you where this was discussed and the FAQ referenced.

Even if the RS goes ineligible, he will continue to practice and improve during his freshman year.

If he goes ineligible, there is at least some forum wisdom that he will require more SH in future seasons to stay eligible, though I haven't had experience with that, so cannot confirm or refute.

James, I'd start your guy at 0 SH and submit a ticket to support asking about the future SH needs (word it carefully) so you know by the time the first grades come out whether you'd see any benefit from keeping him eligible. Oh, and if you'd be so kind share any feedback you get with the rest of us.

hmmm thats in the FAQ i never realized that and ill send in a ticket and let u guys know what they say back
