Select two players from each year ending in a 5 starting with 2005 and working back to 1885. Select only 1 from 1885. Could use any number actually. The idea is to get a league with players evenly distibuted from all eras.

Bad with the Good

This may take a while to verify rosters, but it would be a hell of a fun team to research. Basically, you select 6 teams in ML history (franchise and specific year). You must draft the two most expensive and two least expensive players from each team, by WIS value. The 25th player can be any player in ML history under $5M.

I also really like the idea of a variable cap. Some of my favorite WIS memories are watching shaybee take a $60m team into the world series, beating $90m and $100m teams in the playoffs along the way. I've also taken a $45m team into the playoffs in a variable cap league, and one of my all time favorite moments was when I had my $25m team beat a $255m team.

There's several ways we could handle the points, but pinotfan (I think) has a pretty solid win/point conversion for variable cap leagues.

What about a one round draft where you pick:

~ An exclusive player (all seasons)

~ A franchise along with a 10 (or 20, or 30) year period (for the owner who picked before you)

~ A stadium (for the owner who picks after you)

Then you must use that stadium chosen for you, your exclusive player, and can only draft the rest of your team from the franchise and years that were picked for you.

Or as a twist on that:

~ A year (for the owner who picked before you)

~ A franchise (for the owner who picks after you)

~ An exclusive player (who had to have played for that franchise at some point of his career. i.e., Ruth would be eligible for Yankees, Red Sox, Braves)

Then you must use the ballpark from either the year your player played for the franchise or the year chosen for you, and the rest of your roster must come from players from that same year that was chosen for you.

So, whoever picks first would pick just a franchise for the person who picks second, who would then pick a year for the first owner. The first owner would then get their franchise chosen by the last owner and then could choose their exclusive (so, whoever goes first is really going last).

I really don't like other people drafting parts of my team.  I think in the WISC you should have control of your teams.  You can put whatever restrictions in place, but I still want to decide what happens to my team.

should do something along the lines of a draft of 2012 maybe 5 rounds or so...and then teammates of those players in which you can twist..

Have you thought about having an auction league, so run more like fantasy baseball than fantasy football? Maybe all players from 2008 onwards, $90M cap, with bids for the first 5 players, and then draft in order of how many $$$ you have remaining for rounds 6-25. (Even perhaps draft 2 players at a time to speed things up, if the draft order is determined by strategy not chance.)

The mechanics of doing an auction using WIS would have to be sorted out, but there are a few options I've seen work, using either sitemail or forums. If you have a trusted commissioner it isn't too hard to do a sealed bid auction, for example.
This is good!

Combining the 2012s and the draft ideas... a Sandy Koufax draft league.

You pick from any player in WIS history and use their "last" season. Basically, players who went out on top like Koufax.

The kicker is, anyone who played in 2012 counts 2012 as their "last" year in WIS. So the draft would be all the 2012 players and all the great retirees. Maybe you should limit it to 1920-2012 or something in case there are crazy good 800ip guys from the early years.

There will not be any gimmicky themes or themes where your roster is determined by anybody other than yourself.

Live by the Sword...
Choose two versions of each player - both his highest and lowest salary years in the data base. 25th player can be a singleton.

For the $110M Theme - one that's been done many times before but I'm not sure if it's ever been done in the WISC...

For your roster, you get:
1 player worth between 13,000,001 and 14,000,000
1 player worth between 12,000,001 and 13,000,000
1 player worth between 11,000,001 and 12,000.000

and so on - you get the picture.

I'll let someone smarter than me sort out the final $5M once you get past the $1M player.
