Hate to see you go coach_billyg -- your posts were always ones that I tried to make a point of reading, even if the thread topic had little relevance/interest to me in the hope that I might discern some hidden nugget about the game from your words. I can totally relate to the burnout factor (though not with this game...I'm still in addict phase with HD) and understand the need to move on. Hopefully somewhere down the road you find yourself with an itch that needs scratched and wander back in among us.

You're leaving now... damn you should have let me win that Iowa State-South Carolina title game a few seasons ago. Good luck man.

You'll be back.

If not, best of luck. I had a blast coaching against you back in the GLV, and I enjoyed our interactions over the years. I'm sad to see you go.

But, you'll be back.

cbg-I've enjoyed greatly reading your posts and interacting with you through sitemails....you'll be missed. Even though we never played on the HD hardwood your knowledge of the game and insights on life garner the utmost respect. Enjoy your "retirement" and that family of yours-the little ones grow up way too fast!

Unfortunate to see you go gil. Hopefully you either come back, or you get that project of yours off the ground

Hey billyg, sorry to see you leave, but I totally understand. I think you'll be back when things change around here... hopefully. GL man.

That's two spectacular coaches and fine individuals chased out of the game by very poor business decisions.  Sorry to see you go!

thanks for the notes guys.

ive been asked about the dynasty lists a couple times now. i will have to check and see exactly where i left off.. it was at the point where you had to change the code to tell it which set of dynasty lists to run, but im pretty sure (and if not, its easy to change) i made it so you just passed in a command line argument and it did the rest. there were a couple steps to go through when you ran these things but im pretty sure the state i would pass it off in... you dont have to know any programming (lets assume it never breaks! but it hasnt before, so shouldnt be a problem), and you dont have to have any statistical no-how. it just spits out crap you have to copy paste into the forums in the predefined formatting. i think i even got it down to roughly half an hour of manual effort to get everything done and posted, most of that being posting (you also have to wait a bit for it to scrape all the team data from all worlds but that doesnt take too too long. i guess i would go in to the code each time to speed it up, hit different worlds from different sites, but a more patient person could simply start the program and wait patiently :)

so really i think anyone with the proficiency of running command line in any environment would be able to pick it up.

also, the one thing that kept me playing so long (other than GLV tark) was all the fine people coaching in the game. the thing id hate to lose is contact with all those guys. some day i might return to HD (i dont think so, but maybe), or might want to play the next big simulation game, and it would be neat to have some HDers contact info (email) to see if theres anyone else playing, anyone else who wants to play, etc.

ive interacted with tons of coaches over the years, im sure half are retired by now... but anyway it would be great to have a way to get in touch with some of you guys. coaches ive coached with a lot and those i havent alike... there are just so many quality coaches around. a bunch of people over the years have sent me a sitemail like, thanks for the help with (whatever), if theres anything i can do let me know. well, id consider it a personal favor if some of you guys would sitemail me your email so that in six months or a year, or whenever it may be, that i get to play my next game in this field, what ever/where ever it may be... there are at least some people i can reach out to see if there are any familiar faces to play with :)

Awww man, you mean no more BS posts about how you plan to spend the last year of your life strung out on heroin?  That was an interesting little "phase" you went through.  Interesting, in this case, being synonymous with "stupider than hell".
i think many people get caught up in the grind of life. and at times, many of us suffer from an over-active mind, getting hung up on things that arent terribly important. i guess i would guess most of us can find *some* appeal, however small, to the prospect of being able to forget all that, and having 1 problem in life. sort of like in the sopranos, when christopher gets made and pauley (sp?) tells him, you are lucky, most people have all these problems... all your problems in life are reduced to one - kicking up the ladder - the family takes care of the rest. its obviously not true, he has more problems, but still. when i watched train spotting the first time and made the connection between it, and a couple old friends i have who fell off the wagon and really screwed their life up, it had a bit of an impact to me - i guess i "got it", on some level. they say in that movie something like, "if you have an honest to god junk habit, all of lifes problems really are reduced to one". obviously again, not totally true, but to care so much about one thing and not have to worry about providing for a family, how you impact others, all that.. i mean, its sad, first and foremost, there is no doubt about that. but on some level, its also appealing - the simplicity i mean, not the dope. kind of along the lines of, ignorance is bliss. if every day you can feed your habit is a good day, and every day you cant, is a horrible one... there really is a level of simplicity to life that eludes the rest of us.

so, i suppose you probably took me a bit more literally than intended. i havent the slightest idea how, as a 75 year old man (or whatever), id be able to convince a dope dealer to sell heroin to me. i think that would be pretty funny, i guess the picture in my head is larry david trying to buy some pot for his dad's glaucoma, except, way shadier. hed probably think i was a narc, most likely id get robbed & stabbed on my first attempt :) so i suppose i meant things more metaphorically than you took them, it doesnt seem terribly practical to me. besides... dont nurses (and HC professionals) really struggle to get blood and stuff from old people? if they struggle that much to find veins, how would an old man with a shaky hand do it? maybe an old pro... but i cant see how you could just start doing that at that age. i mean, im sure its possible... but the point really is that its pretty obviously impractical and doesnt really any make sense if you take it literally. i sort of assumed that was implied.

anyway, you are entitled to your own opinion. i like to think most people took it a bit differently than just wanting to be strung out on heroin (which sounds pretty horrible), but in any case, you wont have to hear it any more!!

I have to admit that an argument for being a 75 year old heroin addict is not something I ever expected to read on an HD forum.

Don't think I ever really played against you since I'm not a fan of the 2-a-days and you're the exact opposite..but still sorry to see you go cbg!

I think you'd have a case for ageism if they refuse to sell to you.  Those bastards.

yeah... i have to concede it was a little off topic :) although i cant really recall the topic of the thread. i like debating polarizing hypotheticals, i never really consider that people will take me totally seriously... hopefully half the people dont think of me as a drug addict now! or i guess... a drug addict to be (in 50 years)

Sad to see you leave.  Good luck in the future.

Billyg, you know I hate when people do this..."retiring" from an online game that you're always $13 away from...but I'll be honest, man, I'm sad to see you go...and whether you'll say/admit it or not, another casualty of whinenavy.

Who the hell's gonna tell me like it is now?  You trust these rubes, billyg lol?  Take care though, HD is losing a pillar of its game and community.  I may not have "known" you in the beginning, but I grew to appreciate and respect you, and I'm glad it happened.

I'm all for keeping in touch btw...friend me on facebook, then you get to really see what the madness is all about lol.
