agree with TJ, no way i'd redshirt one of those seniors, its best to redshirt your freshman who will be best for the team (preferably, a guy who will be a high scorer), so that you can be in better shape for the future. this is gonna be a rough season no matter what you do, better to focus on the long haul.
I agree with TJ as well. That was definitely something I should have considered in drawing up my initial plans.

Oh for crying out loud...agree with TJ? I'm the one that said it first. It's the 3rd damn post in the thread.

Credit where it's due, please.
wow, insecure much? yes, i agree with you, too. as alblack correctly deduced, i agreed with TJ because he was close to the mark on who i'd redshirt as well.

I also agree with your questions.

TJ had two suggestions. I think he was agreeing with the advice about which freshman to redshirt.
Which would be very interesting since he didn't name one in the post. Look below, no players named there, only "redshirt a freshman for the future, not a senior that sucks" which is pretty much what I said only trying to be less direct and more respectful in phrasing it as a question because people say I should be. Well, this is the reward I get for it, being marginalized and passed over for credit.

"agree with TJ, no way i'd redshirt one of those seniors, its best to redshirt your freshman who will be best for the team (preferably, a guy who will be a high scorer), so that you can be in better shape for the future. this is gonna be a rough season no matter what you do, better to focus on the long haul."

Not insecurity, just wanting credit that is rightfully mine which you tried so hard to give to someone else.

You just couldn't imagine that the dumb noob could beat you to the punch and say something with which you could only agree.

distribution, and practice plan.

Basically, everything in season prep.

My first super young roster, and I'm a bit lost as to how to maximize what humble skills these guys bring to the table. And yes, I know I recruited no-IQ guys for my offense. My options were--how you say--limited.

Thanks in advance for anyone generous to help out on this.

It might be useful if you posted the potentials for your freshmen, so that those posting here can help you decide who might be your best redshirt candidate.

Did you decide what to do about the redshirt issue TJ mentioned?

With O'donnell?  He's coming off the books. I actually benched him last season for crying about minutes in two emails one of which involved a lame attempt at blackmail--I rpg a part of this game for my own entertainment--and was hoping he'd quit this season....:)  As for any other redhsirting to balance the classes, I'm holding on for the two exhibitions to see which of the bigs I want to sit and I'll probably sit Williams as well since he has massive long term upside but not enough skill to contribute much this season. One difference between me and a lot of other players is that I try to play this game as I would actually coach. It means that allmy teams have a right to try to win games, regardless of the impact on development. It's not a recipe to win titles, but it's part of the fun for me. I won't deprive upperclassmen of their right to go out as good as they can be just to pump up talented freshmen.

Wow, that was long. I owe everyone a cookie....:)

I know it's hard, but even in real life, a coach should be thinking long-term with their teams. For instance, if you know a player is only going to be your 9th or 10th guy, and get maybe 10-12 minutes off the bench, the value of a redshirt (assuming he takes it with little fuss) is very high--particularly in his senior year.

good grief... i've already given you credit in plenty of places for plenty of things, in an attempt to smooth over our relationship. more credit than i would have given you otherwise. isn't that enough? i obviously agree with you, but i agreed with TJ more, theres nothing more to it. this thread is not about you, believe it or not... its about the OP. i agreed with the post that most closely reflected my comments, that had the smallest delta, requiring the smallest additions from myself. again, this is not about you... you have enough threads that are about you, can't you leave some for the rest of the coaches? its great you provided a helpful comment, and really you were on point, when a guy with 10 championships was not. thats good and all, and you can already tell i think that from my supporting of that point. do you really need us to come over and give you a cookie every time you say something right?

i may rethink all of this after the exhibition game. sheesh. 11-28 from the stripe! seriously, you want to see a team that just doesn't know where to fit, look at my box from game 1. fortunately, all my bigs have high ft upside, so they'll eventually hit those shots. mama mia. oh, and my kingdom for a rebounder. they'll get better there, too, but for now, we're going to get murdered on the boards.

Yeah, I noticed the rebounding thing. That'll be hard to overcome this first season. I think Alblack's estimation of not expecting more than 3 wins this season could be about right on the money. I''m thinking next season you could push close to .500, and in these Freshmen's Junior years, you could have a decent team. Depending on development, in their Senior year, your team could be real solid.
