In this order:
DEFENSE
SPEED
ATHLETICISM
PASSING
BALL HANDLING
I always go with a flex offense. if you can get a point guard who can knock down shots from deep and, if you're really lucky, can rebound ... then you'll have an elite guard.
But to me, I can find shooters pretty easily ...what is hard to find is a strong athletic defender who can pass the ball to the post and to scorers without turning over the ball. That's way more important to me than a point guard who can shoot the 3. If my starting point guard can defend and can pass I'm happy. That's why it takes me a good 2 or 3 seasons to get a replacement point guard recruited. If I see a great point guard I almost always take him because they are not easy to find. I'll never let myself get burned by not having a true point guard again. I'll take two or three backups if I have to and I'm always thinking 3 seasons ahead about who will take the reins at point. I want my point guard to have a good season on the team before having them start there.
