I can't speak for anyone else, certainly, but I imagine I could eventually get used to the new scouting/recruiting system. As with all of life, most new things are unfamiliar and unpopular. My love of the game will carry me through the growing pains. I'm not part of the beta, but it seems like there are some good aspects, some things we could get excited about. Reading rednu's blog, there appears to be positive changes every beta season. If we decide to assume it will keep improving before the roll out, and if we can not assume the worst, we just need to bring in new coaches, as Emy and many others have said.
Look, I know these are huge assumptions, especially through the cynic's lens, but the update is coming regardless. I believe any marketing we do will be more effective than anything Seble and WIS can put money behind, because we're able to convey love and excitement to others, especially as NCAA basketball season approaches. I've played a few basketball sims. Even with all the problems, this is the best simulation on the Internet. There's still a lot to sell people on. Am I wrong here?
Pallas - I love this game a lot too. I do not think there is any chance it will die. I honestly believe that a lot of the people who are saying they will leave will decide to stay once it is implemented, although I know some will leave. Some of them may come back because they will miss the game, and I hope that is the case. But I also think that a lot of old coaches who have left over the years will come back. They left for various reasons that quite possibly have been addressed in this update. Many will also want to try a new challenge, if they just got bored because they managed to learn the game so much and it was not challenging enough for them any more.
Some of the improvements that may have been reasons players in the past have left are the following: Poaching in the last cycle is not possible, at least to where someone cannot just appear out of nowhere in the last cycle. You also have 11 days to scout vs 36 hours. You can also set your first recruiting cycle 24 hours before recruiting starts instead of 2 hours. I am finding it much easier to recruit at longer distances because there is no longer a huge cost increase at 200 or 360 miles. There are countless other improvements.
Many of the concerns that some voiced at the beginning of Beta have been addressed or are in the process of being addressed, for example, the issue of D3 teams getting ranked D1 players.
I really like the update a lot. For example I just discovered one new thing this morning when I decided to try to redshirt a player that hadn't played in the first 3 games. I was wondering to myself when I would hear back, because we always had to wait a cycle to see if it was accepted. Turns out, you get an instant reply, so I was able to find out he hated it and restore him to the roster in about 1 minute. That was always a pain to have to wait because if I tried to redshirt someone, I could not fully set my lineup, not knowing if the player would have to be added back. I like so many things about the update. I may actually add teams after it comes out.
