Another RIDICULOUS stat from this collapse.

I faced the worst team in my division AND league a couple weeks ago. They swept us in 3 games scoring 29 RUNS in those 3 games. AND they had the WORST ranked offense coming in. This is my point. All of these anomalies are happening at once.

Well, I tried. Look, there's no conspiracy, the game is just a statistical simulation. There are cases where 1908 Addie Joss gives up 10 homers in a single game, and hits 2 himself. It's rare, even when you consider how many games are played each day, but it happens.

Ha. You made some good points and I appreciate the dialogue. But I've never seen so many factors go wrong during one season to cause a collapse like this.

Also, twice this season I faced a team (over 70 games into the year) with a player who only had 1 HR entering the series. After the 3 game series he had 4 and they were game changing homers. This happened twice against two different teams.

It just seems all the random bad luck happened at the worst possible time for this team. A team which was also 15 games over .500 at home and now is only 4 games over .500 at home. It's all just bottomed out.

I don't know the scientific / psychological name for it, but there's an effect that says that people fixate more on rare occurrences when they happen at inconvenient or noteworthy times. For every player who did that, there's more cases where it happened at times that didn't significantly change the outcome of games, we just don't notice them as often because they aren't as relevant to us.

Very possible. You do notice things that cause losses more than wins, that's true.

I've got 10 games left. Maybe a few guys will get hot and we can still make a run. I've already got my next team ready and waiting because this one could be cooked for good already. :)
