A BLUE RIBBON PANEL TO IMPROVE FILLING WORLDS Topic

Everyone that is in a world that is sailing along easily says it's because of a great commish and all the ones sitting are because of a not such a good one. I think a lot of it is because the target is too big. I used to tell my bosses I can put 45 lbs of poop in a 5# sack, but not 50. In this case we are putting 50lbs. in a 500# sack. There are too many teams in too many worlds. It is not a new problem. I have been here 8 years and it goes back as far as I remember and for awhile Fox added worlds even when what we had were not filling. Maybe I am way off the mark, but a good start would be fewer worlds. If we someday don't have enough it would seem maybe we helped the problem.

I agree, this is where merges come in.

Also, with all due respect, having Sim AI in HBD would ruin it for me and many others I believe. The sims would either be too powerful and always win, or too terrible like HD. HBD is a lot more complex then HD. In HD game planning is straightforward and in recruiting there’s strategy, but Sim is programmed to just get the best guys that no ones touching. HBD is a lot more difficult and strategic.

This might be an impossible question to answer, but how many active owners are there currently in HBD? I believe that solving the imbalance of owners/worlds is certainly the biggest problem...if we knew how many owners there are, it could help in figuring out an "ideal" number of worlds. Once that is established, answering these questions would likely be a lot easier.

Ghost teams are impractical because transactions are the lifeblood of the game. Trades would be impossible so any players on the roster would be effectively dead , free agency would be messed up, promotions and development would be wrong. And they would have to code all of this. It is a bad idea in theory and in practice

Then I see no real alternative. Console games are ran by sims and seem to be popular.

Just to clarify, are you suggesting that some worlds have "ghost teams" while others don't? If so, how would you make that determination? Public vs Private? Commish's choice? World Vote? Something else?

The amount of time that goes into coding ghost teams could improve the game. That clearly is not happening and WiS has no motive because they lose money. This is impossible but kind of what bruins said, if we knew how many people play this game and how many teams people will ideally have, we can make the ideal amount of merges. People try to use swaps to fill leagues, but owners usually leave one year after a swap. Swaps are bandaids, merges are long terms solutions.

At this point just call me Mr. Merge lol.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I have never been apart of a merger, but I feel like more times than not merged worlds end up with long waits and many openings within a few seasons of the merger because the internal issues that caused the original problems are never addressed.

Hopefully that made sense.

It makes sense, but with so many openings, there doesn’t have to be a problem in worlds. Inside the Park rolled over and had 5-7 openings I believe, in a day that grew to 11 openings just because people left to go to the first world in line.

I think that brings up another point. It's always wise to be picky with whom you allow into your world. If an owner has a history of world hopping, he may not be a good fit for your world.

Most worlds take whoever they can get at this point. With so many openings, you can't be picky. I think people are talking about middle and lower class worlds, not Cooperstown or other ones mentioned earlier.
