DoctorKz and Dino27, you are both people I like and respect here and I believe that many others on this site would say the same about both of you.
This got REALLY personal and mean-spirited, REALLY quickly, just escalated out of nowhere.
This site, as I have often in the past argued, is a common good, a collective space that is not JUST a game that we can, well GAME for our own advantage, as you are both, and indeed everyone who has commented on this thread, are in agreement on, but is something whose existence we all benefit from. That is the best reason NOT to cheat, though, as we know, not everyone sees it that way.
Similarly, this Forum is a common good, a collective space that is not just here for us to express ourselves (I know, I do too and probably cross lines from time to time), but whose maintenance is and should be important to us all as A COMMUNITY.
Community, and with everything going on in America right now, I am more convinced than ever of this, IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OPINION, PERSPECTIVE, POINT OF VIEW OR IDEOLOGY. We need to start remembering that.
You may hate your neighbor's religion, politics, lifestyle, but if your house catches fire, or robbers come to it in the night, that neighbor is your first line of defense, the one with the fire hose to turn on the fire before the Firefighters can get there, the one to call the police to let them know about the break-in, the one to keep an eye on your kids if they are doing something they should not when you are at work or away.
We have forgotten that. We want to win arguments now. That is all we want. I do it too or have done it, but I am trying to remember now.
You both want to be here. We all want you both to be here. We want this site to work, to be successful, to be a good place. Even when we were all at our most fed-up with ownerships that cared nothing for the site, WE - the users - were the site's defenders, its real friends.
So, argue yes over ideas, points, legitimate differences. But remember that you are neighbors. And as the Neighborhood committee, we would like you to tone down the personal attacks please. Not as a criticism of either of you, or of both of you, but as a welcoming back to the embrace of the neighborhood, as a place where you have friends, and belong.
