So the rebounding numbers do worry you guys at all?
I have not found much success with bigs that have < mid 80s rebounding, at least. Maybe it's because I play a 3 guard system (typically) and I rely heavily on those guys.
Rebounding is a consideration, but the athleticism compensates for most of it. The added defense puts 2 solidly ahead for me. The first player’s speed is better utilized in press than other sets, but it’s not enough of a factor to make up all the ground of the large ath-def advantage the second player has.
Both players are excellent for D3, and good for D2. I think player 2 could manage as an upperclassman on a low to mid-major D1 squad that was thinking conference title rather than national championships. The player 1 is probably a career backup at any level of D1.
If the second becomes too expensive to recruit (ie, higher level teams appear to be prioritizing him) the first is a good backup. The functional difference in what I’d expect from them is pretty small. I suspect player 1 will help with more possessions and FGA, with marginally more rebounds and steals. Player 2 will foul less, and will better suppress the opponents FG%.
