I am really lucky because in my browser I see "Renewed for next season" in bright green letters on the main page of all of my teams. I guess others don't see that on their devices, particularly, it seems, if one is coaching the Jayhawks. Maybe it's a bug.
Also, the auto-renew feature is really helpful. I use it on all of my teams. If I get below two seasons remaining, I buy more. Maybe that strategy should be in an HD 3.0 forum thread somewhere.
Hey seabreeze, I hear you and all the people in your camp on this... You're right, there are a lot of call-outs, plenty of places to see "RENEW", and whether your seasons are running out, etc.
But as someone who works in digital transformation at a Fortune 100 company, with multiple certificates in Human Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psych, and UX Design, and as someone who has managed the digital transformation for alumni donations at my D3 alma mater I can tell you there is something very wrong with the design of renewals at WIS.
For one, the # of clicks involved to simply add money to your account is pretty intensive - it was already bad but it seems to have been made worse by the integration between WIS and SportsHub. For another, if SportsHub truly wants to generate profits, they should migrate to a legitimate auto-renewal process that actually ties to a user's CC information. At a minimum, they should offer that as an option...it would make them more money and avoid having people who rely heavily on credits "accidentally" lose their teams when their credits run out.
I.e. if there was a configuration where I could set my account to use credits until they run out and then auto-default to have my CC charged to renew when I run out of credits, I would use that. Heck, I might even lazy enough to set it to purchase single seasons, which, cumulatively, would result in me paying more to WIS than if I purchased seasons in bundles. If they really wanted to make the feature robust, they could let people auto-renew in different tiers/bundles for discounted prices - i.e. if I run out of credits, let the system preemptively purchase a 5-pack for me. Then I can ride that 5-pack + credits for a while and reduce the frequency of my spend.
Yes, it's on the user's to renew. But if you want to make money, you don't make the process intensive enough that there are 2-3 threads a week about established players who have likely poured hundreds if not thousands of dollars into this game accidentally losing their teams.
Imagine if Seamless or Netflix made you manually renew every couple of months? If after you've ordered from a restaurant 5 times or finished binge-watching a TV series your account simply deactivated because you didn't hit renew in time? It doesn't make sense.
I think, among other things, one reason WIS has rested their laurels on this is because the "firing system" in this game is pretty weak. This is one of the most effective ways to knock top tier players out of high-ranking DI teams to open them up for newer players. But it doesn't seem like a smart or savvy business/financial model.
From an NPS perspective, WIS is doing heavy damage to their image. Hurting long-term players, even if they do return, is going to heavily discourage them from encouraging their friends & colleagues who likely have similar interests from joining WIS. That sentiment legitimately will damage the long-term success of this game. Which sucks for all of us.
