@top

I love Low D1. The idea of building up a school that has never been relevant in a world into a B+ prestige school competing for Sweet 16s and star recruits with no help from baseline really appeals to me. Going from the bottom up is a bunch of fun and feels pretty good at the summit.

Also, low D1 I don't have to deal with my two biggest annoyances in the game which are (1) higher division teams you just can't compete with swooping in on your guys and (2) EEs.
I guess I should rephrase. I don't mean necessarily about the game part. I just meant as far as team surfing.... all of em look so uninteresting to me. Haha. Playing the game with one might be fun, I'll find out soon I guess.

Also for benis, to clarify... to me, if it's not a Big 6 school, i consider it Low D1 and mid major, all in the same.
Well I guess I don't know what you're looking for then. Is it baseline prestige? Name recognition? Full and competitive conference? Location?
pretty sure he's just looking for a community

I was looking for anything besides big 6.

I don't even know the difference between the worst D1 type of conference schools, and the best non big 6 conference type of schools. After the big 6, it's all just one big pile of schools to me.

Yeah I would say that there is a huge difference between a conference like A10, MWC than Big Sky or SL. The mid majors are going to be much more full with competitive coaches while the small conferences are often empty and you'll just run through the conference portion of the season easily.

I know you're lumping those together but they're very different. So it's all about what you want. If you want the 'ultimate HD challenge' then try to win a title with a D prestige baseline school in a low D1 conference. It might be boring during the conference but load up on non conf games and just build for the NT.

Or if you enjoy the interaction and excitement of building up a mid-major into a power with other coaches like some folks have done recently with the A10 (I can't remember what world) then join one of those conferences. You can still shoot for getting deep tourney runs and what not but it's just a bit easier IMO due to the benefit of baseline prestige.

I would think a group of us could turn the WORST conference into a competitive place. But I don't "know" that yet due to lack of experience. But if I can take a D prestige team far, put other like minded coaches with me, and we can all do well. (At least I would think!)

Totally agree that if you got 6 very good coaches, you could turn a low major conference into something as successful as other B6 conferences. Baseline prestige is important for sure, but the more important part is coaching ability. B6 conferences are full of mediocre or bad coaches but they're propped up by higher baselines so it may not look as bad.

The tricky part is getting that many good coaches to buy in to doing a low D1 conference power house. Just hard to keep it all together for long enough to start to see fruits of the labor (10+ seasons). I think the only one I've seen do it successfully is the MEAC in Tark, they've got a hell of a low D1 conference going.

In Wooden the Big Sky (12 D Baseline teams) was ridiculously competitive from Season 95-105. No organized join effort, just a collection of coaches (cubcub113, trail, zemedlin, byeags, fish, bunch, baumsaway, trizzo, mattstarks, lotsabooze).

88 players drafted, 30 sweet 16s, 6 final fours and 3 titles since Season 100.

In season 102 we had:
Weber State A-
Jackson State B
N Arizona C (won title in Season 110)
Prarie View B+
Southern C+
Alcorn State C

Portland State B-
Montana A-
Idaho State C
Sac State B+

So yeah, good coaches can rise a D prestige conference up. But it's just wrong to say it doesn't matter whether you're in the A10/MWC or the Big Sky...

It has been done multiple times in the past, as cubcub says. Take a look at the Big Sky in Allen (starting in season 33) or the CAA in Rupp (starting in season 25), Once started, though, it can be a little difficult to hold everything together for more than 10 or so seasons - people get frustrated with reaching ceilings, and see Big 6 openings beckoning.

This kind of challenge, though, might be the single most fun thing to do in HD. You diminish the chance of actually winning a D1 championship, but if you happen to do that, it beats every other championship you will ever win.

I can accept that. Again I don't know for sure. But we have a conference. We're going to WCC, likely "gonzaga free" as far as the small group I've spoke with. There are already two coaches there. I haven't checked to see who, but if you're reading...... we're on the way.

If anyone would like to join and just show up, can't stop you from doing that. But if you'd like to friendly join what we're trying to do, sitemail me or post here, for team selection purposes. We already have some teams targeted. So it would be better to organize with us so everyone can get a team of their choice somewhat, without being pitted against other resumes to compete for a specific job.

I think sportsbulls told me a while ago he was going to Lipscomb in Rupp. Idk if he still is.

Yeah I still am.

I was the aforementioned random coach Top referred to in an earlier post. In 2.0 a group of coaches and I tried to build up the Summit League in Allen. We actually did a fairly decent job-the catch was we were right next to the ACC when it was the most powerful conference in all of HD. We just couldn't overcome their recruiting money. But building that conference up was probably the most fun I've ever had in HD.

Well where is Mr Sportsbulls?! I don't see him yet. Lipscomb players are getting restless without a coach!

Also.... still unspoken for are.....

Loyola Marymount
San Diego
San Francisco
Gonzaga

All the rest are (or will be) filled. Come and get one if you are interested!

I had fun at IUPUI and Mississippi Valley State. It really depends on your goals. It was 2.0 though. Not sure with the already slow rebuild I would do it now. I picked up Michigan and I am suffering. Mid-major is a hassle also until we can get a full recruiting in when switching job.
6/19/2020 7:34 AM
Rebuilds are what I love most. I've never enjoyed taking over teams that were good already. Only have done it twice. (One is current, and wasn't really a built team. Just had human controlled players)
