Fair enough

That’s exactly what I was saying. Don’t remove the press. Make it a secondary option to a base defense. There aren’t that many true base defenses, so adding more isn’t a real option. But by having a secondary defense option, and including FCP as an option, you could really make gameplanning more effective and be more realistic. For example, set m2m as your base. Set FCP as your secondary. Then “add” situational options for when u run FCP. ( after every make, after made fts, randomly after makes, etc...). You could also do the same for any defense as a secondary. Also, FCP isn’t really a defense. Is it a m2m full court trap; a 2-2-1 FCP, a 1-2-2 3/4 ct trapping press? By adding these options, you not only add defensive options like one coach mentioned, but you also eliminate the all day every day press and u can customize what press u run and when you run it. So it’s really addition of more options by subtracting 1 “base” defense that isn’t really isn’t even a true defense unless to decide which type of press it is and when it’s ran.

That’s prolly a bunch of run on sentences but I think you guys get my point! Lol

I'm not an expert on real life basketball offenses and defenses, but is the fastbreak really an offense? Isn't it basically the same thing as uptempo? I feel like we could remove the fastbreak and maybe have more tempo options or just adjust the current tempos.

Fastbreak is pretty much just a free form offense that tries to score as quickly as possible without using sets. It certainly "exists" in real life - there are programs that pretty much don't run set offenses- it's kind of like the "run and gun offense" in HD.

Brokenee and getbedarded, thanks for having my back! Seems like such a simple fix but alas . . .

Brokenee, next round's on me at Hooters!

You can absolutely press off missed shots. Happens all the time.
Happens all the time? Do you mean press as in, the one of the defenders trying to pickup the ballhandler? Having played basketball a reasonably high level, (D1, professional overseas), I can't recall ever seeing a team trap off a missed shot. Maybe in youth basketball like fdny mentioned above, but that seems like an exception.

I could be wrong and maybe teams do press off misses. If so, I'd like to see it.
Portugal, by any chance?

Unfortunately I didn’t get to play in Portugal. I had some good friends play a year in the Azores....their pictures were pretty amazing. Why did you ask about Portugal?

Found a guy named Andy Bedard that played D1 at Maine and then pro in Portugal. Thought that might be you. Just wondered.

You can press full court off a miss. Rare but I have seen it. You can have a fastbreak offense. They are the hardest teams to defend.

Good sleuthing, but not me. My user name is a mashup of the Black Eyed Peas song 'Let's Get Retarded' and the Erik Bedard trade the Seattle Mariners made for Erik Bedard in 2008. I am a Mariners fan (ugh), and thought that trade was indefensible at the time from the M's standpoint.
