The 2021/2022 Tournament: Round Three Particulars Topic

For some of the League 6 options, it's tough to get enough "decent" innings with only 10 pitchers allowed. Since the league has a DH, I'd prefer to have no fewer than 11 pitchers? Maybe you could allow one exception to the "3-hitter, 2-pitcher per season" rule.

Suggestion: Allow "2-hitters & 3-pitchers" for one of your 5 seasons, for League 6 only.

I'm not seeing where it would be much different for League 6 than any of the others. Granted, there aren't many 300 or 400 inning pitchers available in League 6, but with ten pitchers, it seems like you could still create a pretty good pitching staff. Also, every other team in the league would be under the same constraints. I'd prefer to leave it as it is but if enough of the other owners feel the same way, I could take a closer look at it and possibly make a change or two...

That's fine. Most teams in League 6 will probably need to roster a minimum of 5 starting pitchers. It will be hard to get enough innings with 4 SPs and 6 RPs (unless you sacrifice quality for quantity).

But you're right, many of the teams will be in the same boat. Although it wouldn't surprise me if at least one team ended up not drafting enough innings and fell into the fatigue death spiral. (It could be a situation where somebody would have a choice between adding a fifth SP with 200 IPs and a 1.27 whip or adding a sixth RP with 45 IPs and a 0.99 whip. But that would leave the team with only 1445 IPs instead of 1600 in a league with the DH.

I wonder how many people will actually be in a position to use clones in this round. Seems even the players that span groups rarely have great seasons in each group.

I'm not done with all of my drafts yet. But for my 6 teams I have no clones that I plan on using.

With the Royals, I have both of George Brett's greatest seasons.

I have 2 so far (of 4 teams), Ted Williams and Honus Wagner

I have clones of Albert Pujols (playing 1b and 3b), Hank Aaron (2b and RF), and Tim Raines (one starting, one reserve). My Giants, Red Sox and White Sox just had no useful candidates.

Robin Yount
Eddie Plank

my clones (from 5 leagues):

Yogi... cause that way he can run the game behind the plate and amuse the bench
3 finger brown... cause, umm.. he's him.
over $31M worth of ted williams... no other explanation needed
jared weaver... cause the angles are horrible

I think it was a needed opportunity for teams with limited seasons. For the rest, it just is a bonus way of being a little better.

I already site-mailed thejuice6 but wanted to publicly commend him on an outstandly creative and challenging theme idea. Sure, I would've preferred we had the option of going with 3H/2P or 2H/3P for each year as that would have made the draft a little easier to navigate. But the limitation of getting only 10 pitchers added an extra wrinkle to the drafting process. Knowing we get only 10 pitchers, it was really hard to tank 20% of our pitching staff in order to draft a year with three stud hitters. And to constantly have the decision of drafting a year with a single STUD player and nobody else vs drafting a year with 4-5 usable decent players was maddening, yet fun. We could repeat this exact same exercise with the same owners and the same draft order and with one decision change, completely alter everybody rosters. I know I would like to have a few re-dos on some of my picks.

I am going to start a draft strategy thread where folks can post their draft strategy, and how it all played out. I know I really like how a couple of my drafts turned out, but I also know that I really sh*t the bed on a few teams. Also, how did others' decisions impact your roster? This is the stuff that fascinates me and why I continue play on this site.

6 teams, no clones. And I think I only had the opportunity for 1-2 across all my teams.

Another tough aspect - and one that drove me nuts - is that quite a few stud seasons for players weren't available because their teams surprisingly didn't do well that season (at least not well enough to get into the top historical seasons for their franchise). I'd look up a player I wanted and get excited for a particular season/set of teammates, only to discover that season was not even available to draft.
