No, you keep 17 players total this first year. The franchise rookie comes into play in season 2.

What year was the trade? As long as the trade was in 1970 or later you don’t have to worry about it.


Basically trades or anything else that causes a player to change teams doesn’t matter. It would only come into play if it were in 1969 as you can’t keep a split season player.
