Definitely not down with a 20 min window - should be at least an hour imo. Not everyone has a job where they can jump online in such a short period to do this. I wasn't feeling good today, so I had a light work day and I am frustrated with the slowness too, but different people have different things going on with their lives, and imo, that unrealistic.

I was a WIS NBA regular for a few years and then stepped away for the past 4(ish) years. When I was playing regularly, I was involved many drafts and they were all timed. Some had 30 min time sots, some had an hour, similar to this example. I'd go with hour time slots, personally. 20 minutes isn't much time if your top 2 or 3 guys get taken right before your slot comes up and you're busy working or driving or whatever. But, I'm all for a clock. We've had 5 picks since I made my selection at midnight.

Midge---you could do it like the Decade Draft League with a tweak or 2. Draft starts at 10 am and goes to 10 pm every round. Everyone knows well ahead of time when their 30 minute slot is based on the random draft order. Once you set the schedule, allow owners to go ahead and start drafting 2 days prior to the official start of the draft so we can pretty much get ahead of schedule. That way, when owners are tied up for a couple hours at work or whatever, you are typically ahead of schedule so that they don't get skipped. The next owner cannot go until the previous owner's deadline is up. So, if #1 pick below has not picked by 10:30, owner 2 can go ahead, etc...

The problem with the decade draft model is that you can pick if the person before you picked if it is before your time, even if someone was skipped. Don't like that rule.

If someone was skipped, they missed their time slot. The draft moves on. That's the point. It makes perfect sense to me,

I just want something better than what we are doing now. I don't have a problem with a twenty minute window. It only takes a minute (or less) to make your pick. If you know your time slot is 3:40, just take a look at 3:30 and see if your guy is still there. By the fifth round it's pretty much you know who you want and you have a pretty good idea if he will be there or not. I usually know who I want and have a backup ready if my guy is gone. It doesn't take twenty minutes. I'm rambling. How many times have you looked to see you're three picks away and you think you'll pick pretty soon and eight hours later you still haven't picked?
If you know you're picking at noon or 2:40 or whenever, you don't have to check thirty times to see if you're up yet. Log on, pick, move on with your day.

Let's say your picking 19th for the day. You have a busy day at work and can't just research and click on refresh all day. And the first 7 guys you want are taken? 20 minutes is not nearly enough to find a replacement. Your schedule might be different, but not everyone has that time or flexibility.

I'm all in for imposing a timer. I think it should either be 30 or 60 minutes. Don't care which. If you miss your window, the draft moves on.

More importantly I love this part of the draft where certain teams are clearly skipping higher cost levels, but must have a player or two in mind, as they build out their team. This is when dreams become reality or get crushed. Always fun watching the different strategies play out.

I agree. Plus, you need to see how the draft plays out before sending proxies. Maybe you pick 20th and you have 7 Centers and 7 PGs on your list. PG-X is your top choice, but by the time it gets to you, 6 of your Centers have been taken but 5 PGs are left. You take the 1 Center you have left and odds are you'll get a PG you want with your next pick even if it isn't PG-X...

60 Min time slots make this easier to manage. If your slot is at 4, you check in at 2 and you can send a proxy. 20 min windows just rush the process for people. I have insanely busy days Fri-Sun and it doesn't matter if I know when my slot is up or not. If it's only 20 minutes, I could be too busy to hit it. 20 min slots is just to fast. 60 mins still speeds up the draft considerably compared to this. Plus people draft at night when the clock is off and tend to get way ahead of the clock anyway. That's when the 12 hour rule should apply regardless of where the time slot is. We could be 2 days ahead of the clock, for example.

I understand that sometimes people get super busy at work or with life in general and don’t have the time. However, have you ever actually had your first seven options taken?

I don’t know what other people do, but as soon as I make a pick I almost always know who my next target is. I also have a backup in place in case my guy gets taken. By the second round, I usually know who I want for the rest of the draft. Does anyone wait until it’s their turn before deciding who they are going to take? Also, if you know in advance that you will be busy when your spot comes up, that’s when we should either send a proxy or maybe a buddy can text you when you’re up. If someone gets a bad time slot, there are ways to make it work.

Also, I’m not talking about doing this at the top of the draft. I’m talking about the bottom of the draft. Say you’re looking to take a 6-7 guy, there might be only 5 or 6 teams that still need a 6-7 guy. There is a good chance that most of the people are drafting in a different price range. There’s no way that your top seven guys will be snatched away when you’re in the 6th round.

At this point I’m just looking for feedback and ideas. If we can’t agree on something that most of us like we can keep doing what we’re doing. It seems to me that there should be a flurry of activity in the evening, but even when most people are home from work there is still dinner, spending time with the kids or wife, maybe you’re at a movie, it’s all good. Sometimes drafts can be slow, but I have never seen one that didn’t finish.
6/9/2022 9:43 PM
I'm all in for a Clock which is set up two days in advance of the commencement
of the draft with one hour intervals.
Forty Eight hours is plenty of time to get your pick or list ready.
No fuss or muss with that aggravating refreshing itch.
This has probably already been discussed but I only read Midge's humorous posts.
If it has been brought up then I concur with that sentiment.
