Yeah, every group has 2-3 really good teams nowadays as most squads are full of 30 year old+, level 5 players. FC Not Very Athletic's Kane Cornynn is 142. If he nets one, he'll be the oldest player to score in Cup play by a mile. Now that's veteran leadership...

The initial tournament update will be this evening as I'll do the first sweep of scheduled games and see if any have gone final.

Starting tomorrow, I'll do either one or two updates a day depending on how many games are on the docket. Since it looks like I'm going to be snowed in here in the Kansas City area this weekend, I'll have plenty of time for game summaries.

I don’t really know what to expect. My team has had domestic success but there isn’t a frame of reference for how it will compare with other teams in the same world, let alone across the whole system.

Good luck and have fun!

Yup...this is like playing in the Champions League where the qualifiers come from a parallel universe.

As usual, scheduling will not be a problem with the Cup. 64 games have already been placed on the docket, including all games out of Group D. Thank you, everyone for such a lightning fast response. Considering we're playing a game that hasn't had an update since March 2010, that's not too shabby, lol.

In looking at the schedules, the program has done its usual duplicate games bug so now is as good a time as any to state a Cup rule. If multiple games between two teams at the same home field are scheduled, the first (earliest) game will count for the standings unless I hear from both coaches to the contrary. There have been instances where I am told for various reasons to ignore one result in favor of a later contest. As long as I know ahead of time, I'm good.

Cup XVIII live action gets going tomorrow with three games slated to be played.

The first two games for FC Dynasty Cup XVIII are now a part of history as the Group Stage has started to award points. the crutchanators of soccer grabbed the tourney's first victory as they hosted and handled FC Not Very Athletic in Group E play. Shawn Lindholm quickly got the home side on the board when crutchanators was awarded a free kick just outside the penalty box. Surveying the defense, Lindholm lined up the kick and lofted a beautiful cross to himself after running around the wall. Athletic goalie Derrick Richardson, a little taken aback by the display of speed, was slow to react and his diving effort was too late to stop the ball from rippling the back of the net.

To prove it was no fluke, Lindholm did it again when his set piece kick in the 30th minute to the right of the wall gave him the right angle to head in his own pass to make the crutchanators advantage 2-0 at halftime. After making some adjustments to contain the Danish speedster, things turned into a defensive affair as neither team was able to tally until a late corner allowed crutchanators Finnish midfielder Mainio Vatanen to one-up his teammate. Arching a corner cross into the center of the box, Vatanen not only showed speed but a vertical leap as he rose above the defense to head it home to finish the scoring in a 3-0 win for the Cup XIV Champs. There must be something in the water in Scandinavia these days.

In the other morning game, Southeast Indiana Football Club hosted FC Stolpen Steamroller to get Group F started in a much more conventional game, at least from a scoring standpoint. Indiana struggled to make an impression on the Saxons as they had to frequently foul to recover from turnovers and gaps in their defense. However, they made the most of their few opportunities by scoring in the 30th minute when Leo Ingraham redirected a cross that left Steamroller goalie Sein Flórez no chance to prevent the goal, giving Indiana the 1-0 lead. However, right before the referee blew the halftime whistle, Cup veteran and former Cologne central midfielder Stirling Carrillo tied the game when his shot wasn't cleanly tracked by Indiana goalie Patrick Borgman to make the game even at 1-1 going into the break.

Although Stolpen dominated the 2nd half statistically, they couldn't manage to find the winning goal. Their last good scoring chance was in the 87th, when another former Cologne player, Defender Ritchie Font beat Borgman to the far side but got a bit unlucky as the ball clipped the post and spun out for a goal kick. With the final whistle, both squads split the points, much to the relief of the entire Indiana lineup, who was gassed at that point.

This evening the Metropolitan Eagles get their first spanking out of Group D when they travel to Lower Saxony to open up against Wolfsburg Dynamit.
1/23/2026 3:38 PM
The first day's action has come to an end as the Metropolitan Eagles shook off upper management's uncertainty and thoroughly dominated Wolfsburg Dynamit in front of 21.072 Dynamit fans. Motivated by the bulletin board material, the Screaming Eagles put out a smothering defense that allowed only two shots on goal. Offensively, the Swedish club scored the first of its two goals in the 23rd when Pepin Zedlacher ran straight down the middle of the penalty area and blasted a shot off the hands of Dynamit goalie Gary Alford for the 1-0 lead. Then, Greguska Kokes wrapped up the half with an unassisted effort 20 minutes later when he knocked one in off the underside of the crossbar to make it 2-0, which is the way the scoreboard read when the game went final after a scoreless 2nd half...a pretty good start for a team that thought it was outmatched.

There are 9 games this weekend, so I'll be making multiple updates each day. Keep scheduling those remaining Group games and I'll see you tomorrow.

Day two of the tournament had only two games (I thought there was a third game this evening but I wrote the date down wrong) so this will be the only update for the 24th.

After getting beaten badly to open Group E, FC Not Very Athletic bounced back to return the favor to the crutchanators of soccer as the teams traveled to England for the other half of the series. Athletic, while still outplayed statistically, was much more efficient with their scoring chances than was the oft-shooting but not oft-scoring visitors. The English side scored all four of its goals in the 1st half, building up an insurmountable 4-1 lead by the break, as London Jamison immediately set the tone for the day with his powerful header in the 3rd minute. Irish midfielder Nile Kivlahen added a pair as the two teams ended their home and away with three points apiece, although crutchanators holds the tiebreakers at this early stage. crutchanators got another goal from Mainio Vatanen, who beat the offside trap and tapped it in as well as a late score from Leotrim Fasel, to end the game as a 4-2 Athletic victory.

First-time Cup participant FC Winnipeg Royal Lions impressed in the inaugural game as they hit the road in Group G and demolished Cup XII Champion FC Kingston 4-0. Winnipeg took control early and never let up, scoring in the 16th off a header by Hungarian forward Nyék Sallay and then adding two more before halftime, including a shot by Firenze Széll just before both teams went into the locker room. Széll also accounted for the game's only 2nd half tally as he dove forward to hit a low bouncing strike that eluded veteran Japanese goalie Toshitsugu Nagata to close out the score sheet. The Canadian World 85 team didn't seem to need much time to adjust to Cup play as they try to establish themselves as a contender right away.

There are 6 games on Sunday in Cup XVIII's first big day.

There was a third game yesterday, which I'll add first before I start doing today's games. I have about one more hour of removing snow from my driveway and then I'll get the am results.

I rarely wish I still lived outside of Miami...except for days like today.

OK, driveway is clear and it is back to the Cup.

There were two games from yesterday that were not entered into the standings. Group B opened with two long-time Cup participants meeting as VB Hibernian hosted two-time Cup Champions Rushmore FC in England. The game was an even contest as would be expected from two clubs of this caliber. Jonte degollado, whose parents never bothered to capitalize their last names, got Rushmore on the board first when his strike from distance beat Hibs goalie Sonny Miki in the 28th minute. The Greens then answered right back when a corner cross set up Godfredo Pinola in the middle of the box, his redirection tying the game at 1-1 but the draw lasted only a few minutes as Nathan Wyard got Rushmore's 2nd goal in the 39th to give the visitors a 2-1 halftime lead. Despite a number of quality chances, Hibs couldn't find the equalizer and the game ended with Rushmore grabbing all three points.

In the other missed game, new Cup participant...and only the 2nd team ever from Denmark in Cup history...Holbæk Idrætsforening started its tournament legacy with an impressive 2-0 road win in Group F against Southeast Indiana Football Club, in front of a large crown of 39,644 in the Hoosier State. Holbæk, playing an uncommon 5-3-2 formation, completely shut down the Indiana offense, yielding precious few opportunities for the home team to score. Meanwhile, the Danish squad generated 22 chances and placed two of them into the back of the net, both in the 1st half. Damien Elsinger nutmegged his defensive marker and crushed one past Indiana goalie Patrick Borgmanto open the scoring in the 32nd minute and teammate Farid Burk added the insurance right before halftime to complete the victory and take all the points.

Now, I'll start to work on todays morning action.

In the morning games, Shawn Lindholm put on another scoring clinic as he added another two goals in the crutchanators of soccer's 3-1 victory over Swamp City Dragons in Group E, giving him 4 goals so far and the early lead in the Golden Toe competition. Once again, Lindholm scored off his own pass in the 27th and set up Raymond Vela's header with a nice looking corner kick to give crutchanators the 2-0 lead at halftime. The Cup VI Champion Dragons didn't have a very good day but did manage a single tally when their ageless forward, the 119 year old Arley Movsisyan, added to his all-time tournament scoring total in the 78th when he rose above the youngsters to prove that age is just a number.

In Group C, first-time Cup participant Hardknocks F. C. played an excellent game against FC Edinburgh Bullet Birds but fell shot at home 2-1. The Bullet Birds scored the only goal of the 1st half when Evan Ashby clubbed a ball off the side of his foot past a diving Hardknocks goalie Jerome Groenwald in the 33rd. Edinburgh then increased its lead to 2-0 in the 54th when Suthley Simms knocked one in off a direct free kick, catching the defense not set and beating Groenwald to the near post. But, the newcomers played to the final whistle and cut the lead in half when Wacleah Brownflet glanced a header towards the far post, capping off a long stretch of time where the home side dominated play. A desperate shot by Rey Bejo in extra time sailed high of the mark and Edinburgh escaped with three points on the road.

Last minute entrant Bad News played a tough game to open on such short notice as they fell at home 2-1 to FC Winnipeg Royal Lions in Group G play. Nyék Sallay scored for the second game in a row to close out the first stanza to give Winnipeg the 1-0 halftime lead but Bad News tied the game in the 68th when Dylan Launceleyn hit a diving header to get the home crowd up on their feet. Unfortunately for them, they sat back down soon enough after Winnipeg midfielder Flavio Ferrando had the answer when his shot ricoched off the crossbar and in for the win. Winnipeg now tops the group with 6 points and 6 away goals, which should do nicely for tiebreakers.

To wrap up the morning, an entertaining 3-3 draw out of Group D saw Metropolitan Eagles jump out to a 2-0 lead on the road against Brighton AFC only to need some last minute heroics to salvage the tie. After a scoreless first half, the floodgates opened after Bolek Horejsi controlled a corner cross and booted a goal past Brighton goalie Kolton Rimando. After Greguska Kokes increased the lead to 2-0, Brighton went on a tear and scored three unanswered within a span of 8 minutes late in the 2nd, highlighted by a pair of goals from Jessie Moose. Suddenly trailing 3-2, the Metro Eagles held the ball for almost 5 minutes in the scoring third, with Kokes finally breaking through in the game's final minute to split the points and reverse the 2nd half collapse. The result gives the Metro Eagles 4 points in its first 2 games...and it is looking like a difficult grouping to advance out of.

Two more games this evening, which I'll update around 7pm.

The two evening games have gone final as Cup XVIII finishes up its first week. Club Deportivo Baile Brian gives the new Cup teams another tally in the win column as the Irish squad hits the road in Group D and gets it done against Wolfsburg Dynamit, who drops their second straight 2-0 defeat on home soil. What was looking like an even contest became anything but after Dynamit defender Gervaso Gonzalez was beaten to the spot in the 28th minute and was forced to horsecollar his mark to prevent a breakaway. The referee had no choice but to award a straight red card, the first of the tournament.

With the man advantage, Baile Brain immediately started to control the flow of the game and Javontay Baker used the additional space to volley in the first score of the game 7 minutes later to place his team up 1-0 at halftime. After Dynamit packed in the defense to minimize the damage, it took all of the 2nd half for Baile Brian to add their second when Bannon Waldron beat goalie Gary Alford off a header right in front of the Dynamit goalie to close out the stats line. While its too early to start referring to must wins, Wolfsburg could use a positive result before things get too far out of hand.

To round out the day, FC Kingston and Fußball-Club Köln 01/07 e. V. played to a 2-2 draw out of Group G in a game that only happened due to some minor miracle. For those of you who don't know, my Köln team was deleted and amazingly reinstated by WIS, making this tournament possible. Back to the game itself, Kingston grabbed the early 1-0 lead on a Benoni Händzel strike that easily beat goalie Aritz García to the corner. However, the Billygoats got a great individual effort from free agent signing Sebastiano Leal, brought in to play the unique second striker position in the team's new 4-4-1-1 formation, as the contract paid off with a clean hit into the upper corner to even the game 1-1 at halftime. After taking the lead early on in the 2nd half, Kingston once again gave up all three points and allowed Cologne to draw level late with Bembe Arciniega's header in the 79th and almost lost the game when defending L'Orteil D'or holder Mano Araña missed just wide of the net with a handful of minutes remaining.

There are a bunch of games tomorrow and every day from now on as 82 of the 84 Group Stage contests have been scheduled, which is awesome. See you in the morning.

Three morning games to report on with some scary news for the Group F teams. Holbæk Idrætsforening hit the road against a pretty good FC Stolpen Steamroller club and just crushed them 6-2, sending notice that the Danish side means business. Former the crutchanators of soccer forward Jaquawn Cervantes, signed to a big-time contract during the transfer window, has paid dividends as he scored twice to lead the onslaught. While the game remained close through the early 2nd half and was even tied at 2-2 when Charro Capitan got Stolpen's final goal in the 53rd, Holbæk owned the last 40 minutes, scoring four times and running away with the victory. The Danes now have 8 away goals and are looking like a knockout squad.

Slough FC, who struggled in their first Cup try, seems to have an improved starting 11 this time around as they surprised the crutchanators of soccer 2-1 on the road. Raymond Vela gave crutchanators the 1-0 lead but a late rally saw Slough score twice in the last 15 minutes to take all the points. Elbanco Cardenas assisted himself off a free kick to tie the game at 1-1 and then teammate Luhern Coffey hit a grass burner that skidded past crutchanators goalie Rueban Lazar in the 85th to complete the comeback. Group E is looking wide open for playoff spots.

The final game of the morning had FC Cackalacky host SwampDragons United in Group B and the 40,533 Cackalacky fans enjoyed a 2-1 victory to give the supporters hopes of a playoff bid. Magne Persson got the Americans on the board first when his unassisted effort beat Dragons goalie Treshawn Aznar with ease in the 20th minute. Fletcher Courtenay tied the contest before halftime with a blistering shot but Cackalacky was not to be denied, finding the winner late when Herschel Majerkewicz painted the corner to send the crowd into song. Group B is also looking like any of the four teams could advance as they are all pretty even in quality.

There are noon and evening games, all of which I'll update after 7pm.
