Good job for the boys this year... from the basement to the conf. finals!

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE PROUD!!!!!!!!!!

GO FLYERS..................... to be continued!

Yeah, already starting to think about next season. Gotta step back and put this year into perspective, 22-48-12 to Conference Finals, no one can expect more than that. Sucks to lose like this but as much as I hate to admit it, the Pens have a damn good team.

you can take your ugly attitude out of this thread now.... thank you.

Broke my redline virginity.

Please win with pride. I haven't seen one flyers fan on here actually whining or crying, specially now that the series is over. Nothing but praise.

thanks.

I will gladly delete my post if you would like. Flyers have a bright future, and I am moving on. Apologies.

Something no one is mentioning is the fact that Upshall his feet to give the hit, hence the penalty, and could be one of the reasons the whole fight started (TSN has a good clip on their highlights, at http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/#clip53330 -- It's about 2:30 into the clip). I also think that's why it looks like Upshall was bending down to check on Staal like he was apologizing. Maybe he was.
right, a charging penalty...which we're not disagreeing with

I know. I just think it warrants mentioning that a hit like that will generally lead to some nastiness, such as the fighting.

A great turn around season for Philly, those boys have a lot to be proud of. Should be another fun bunch of games next season.

Signed next year:

Gagne Briere Knuble

Hartnell Richards Lupul

Upshall Downie

Kapanen

Timonen Coburn

Hatcher Jones

Kukkonen Parent

Biron

Niittymaki

Have to sign Carter.

I like Umberger a lot but at the price he'll go I don't see a spot for him.

Not crucial that we sign Thoreson, think he deserves it though.

Both Kappy and Hatch could retire. Even without that we'll have enough to sign one solid defenseman. I think Kalinin, Hainsey and Liles are all 26 and FA's. Replacing Smith with a young puck mover would be a huge move. We're already as deep as can be as far as forward scoring is concerned and Girioux will be ready to go if they decide to do it. All of the young guys have a solid year under their belts. They all now have a few series of playoff style tightened up defense experience and know what it feels like to actually have a shot at winning it all. As good as this team was this year the future looks even brighter.

Congratulations on a great year Flyer fans. You have nothing to hang your heads about....just a great comeback season. Holmgren did a heckuva job turning your team around so quickly. You'll be good again for many years to come.

I do disagree with bsb about Umberger. Gotta sign him, especially after his playoff performance this year.
5/18/2008 7:49 PM
Thanks chuck. I agree with you about Umberger as well. He's played great on the 1st through 4th lines for us, would love to keep him. I just think there are more than a few GM's who see someone like him as their solution to 2nd line scoring and will be willing to pay him as such. Our true needs right now are on the blueline though. One really solid 2nd pairing guy and this is a new team. I'm even ok with Hatcher coming back now that it seems clear that Smith and (please, please, please) Modry won't be around, as long as he's playing 3rd pair minutes. Assuming Holmgrens plan involves a defenseman someone has to go. The only way I see us keeping Carter and Umberger is to move someone, maybe Knuble. Then again, Homers done nothing but amaze me so far...

Any chance Gagne might retire after a couple of concussions?

I haven't heard any update on him in a while, but I remember hearing some people here in Ottawa speculate he might step away while he still can (that was when his last concussion).
5/18/2008 8:41 PM
People around here have all thought it, no one has come out and given any indication that he will retire though. I think the plan is that he will be back. Don't know if he'll be as effective as he once was, if he has a strong chance of it happening again, who knows? Seems everyone (fans) has some "expert" opinion on it but we'll leave it to the doctors to decide. I'm sure he's seen a few outside the Flyers organization at this point and will do the right thing when the time comes. At this point I don't really know what my thoughts are on it, I remember feeling uneasy everytime Lindros and Primeau were out there and don't really want to go through that again.

Last I read about Gagne was he was 100% symptom free (that was around the start of the playoffs) but nobody wanted him to try to get back during the playoffs.

From what I can remember this is his 2nd bad concussion and the 1st was during his 2nd season so I don't think there is much to worry about unless it happens again next year.
