#13 PG, #95 Overall, ****; no promises. At the moment, James Bourquet is a solid pass-first PG. He could develop into an excellent, well rounded PG, depending on just how high his potential is in athleticism and perimeter. His only long-term, definite weakness is FT shooting.

#11 SG, #61 Overall, ****; no promises. I was thinking of going after a Puerto Rican for the SG slot that opened up with Traylor's departure, but decided to play it safe and take what looked like a sure thing. James Marshall should be an excellent outside shooter. I chose him over a Marylander with high potential in speed because if I was going to sacrifice a guard skill, in an SG, it should be passing and not ballhandling (lesson courtesy of Glenn Montero). I expect that his speed will be serviceable, nonetheless...somewhere in the 90 range. Due to his low durability, Marshall will never look as impressive at first glance as he will actually be.

#4 C, #26 Overall, *****, Mr. Maryland; declined 10 minutes. The prize of the class, Matthew Slick is basically ready to see the floor right now...no assembly required. He has no areas of high potential, unfortunately, beyond athleticism. Still, his low potential area is FT shooting, and that's already at a reasonable level (should be a C+ or so). His speed will limit him to the C spot, along with his perimeter and ballhandling skills. He should thrive there, though. His stamina will keep him from logging much more than 20 minutes per game, at any point in his career, but he should be effective when playing.

I really hope that Johnathan Knipp shows up, because if he does I suspect that he will reach the same level of excellence as the #1 C this year (a fellow who I decided not to pursue, in spite of him being 60 miles from me, as I did not like his FT shooting and felt him overrated due to a now-mostly-irrelevant rating, WE). With high potential in stamina and athleticism, Knipp could be a great backup C who will mature to the starting role as a 5th year senior. He could even fill in the PF slot, if necessary. A possible professional. I put extra money into him to try to persuade him to show up in spite of the year off.

Such a nice player. I would've loved to have him, but he didn't suit my team's needs and plans. St. John's wasn't the team that he was initially considering...that would be Hartford. I knew they could be taken out, I just decided not to do it. Still, what a tremendous player. #2 SF, #15 Overall, *****.

Then there's this fellow, Mr. Puerto Rico. He'll be going either to Tennesee or Georgia. Originally, it was just Georgia. His success will depend on his athleticism's potential (and speed, if a low potential, will stifle him...as will stamina). Still, he would have been a nice addition. I thought about it seriously. Perhaps I'll regret going with Marshall instead of this guy. Time will tell. #4 SG, #29 Overall, *****.

I noticed that LSU had its recruiting class just destroyed...he overextended himself. I think I made the right call on holding back. It's tough to be disciplined with an A+ prestige program.

Rivera would've been great for us. Oh well.

I cannot, unfortunately, for some reason, post my team at this computer today. I haven't had this problem for quite some time so I can't really explain it, but it is what it is.

I have put together the distribution plan, practice plan, depth chart, and team plan. I have temporarily dropped the Press from practice and play. I needed the extra 10 minutes for all of my young players. Bane will be starting over Bourget, for the time being. The two are fairly close to each other in terms of ability, but Bane has an edge in IQ and FT shooting...both of which are important towards the end of games.

I don't know where our scoring will be coming from. Montero and Jones are both adequate players, but the best we can hope for is Drew Nicholas and Tahj Holden, and that's a major stretch (and there is no Steve Blake on this roster). They're not Juan and Lonny, that's for sure. Traylor might have shined (shone?) in this situation. He certainly would have been integral to our plans, for better or for worse.

Preseason rankings are an absolute joke. LSU is extraordinarily short of manpower, with 6 walk-ons (and one senior transfer player). He is bound to be demolished all year long - no offense meant to a very accomplished coach (3 national championships in Crum, at LSU, alone). The fact that he is ranked just goes to show how much a coach's history influences the voters.

We should not be ranked. At this point in the season, I suspect we will be quite bad. I expect to recover as practice sinks in. It's up in the air whether we'll recover enough for an at-large bid to the NT.

Well, they'll be a fun group to watch grow. Ch-ch-ch-chia Testudo!
