regarding the timeouts - sometimes inrl teams go on runs at the start (or middle) of a quarter in which case the other team's coach would call a timeout to try to break / slow down the momentum.. and put his starters back in.

Customer service isn't something you have to "train" for (LOL)...I don't understand how or why its so hard to take care of the paying customer. You need to put your arrogance, ego, and feelings aside and listen to what the people are saying to you, and more importantly UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ARE NO LONGER PLAYING THE GAME....because your actions say, you guys don't care that people in droves, a long time ago no less.

I've checked the code and it should be checking for subs on any deadball turnover (i.e. not stolen). That doesn't mean there will be subs, just that it's possible.

if Chester is right and this was a 'deadball' turnover - it apparently only happened once in the quarter and no moves were made

I don't get it. My team should get five more possessions per game after factoring in steals, turnovers, blocks, orebs, etc and shoots a similar eFG% and higher TS%, yet just gets worked. Gah.

Back to the drawing board
post in another thread - you might want to tell him 100 games isnt sufficient sample size

I found a case of it happening in only the second game I looked at under chester's account:

Check with 21 seconds remaining

As I said, just because there is a deadball doesn't mean that either team needs to sub, but they do have the opportunity.

so once in 6 quarters it happens? yeah, that's not a problem
8/31/2009 10:30 AM
The only way to increase that is to decrease frequency of steals per turnover or increase turnovers overall. I'm not saying that's not appropriate, but it's not something we could just toss in and release.

I think it's rare that an NBA game goes more than 90 seconds of game time without some type of stoppage, either for a foul or a turnover.

I have no data, just my impression.
8/31/2009 10:42 AM
I don't think that's the case. I just picked a random game from last season and there were no stoppages until the 8:52 mark of the first quarter.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playbyplay?gameId=290104013

To me it seems to go in bunches, where there is a long stretch of no stoppages followed by several in a row.

Why is it that when I use Firefox and I try to quote someone, it comes out looking like I crapped directly on the page?

The funny thing is that if the substitution logic was better, then this issue of minutes allocation wouldn't be so serious.

(edit: or vice versa? or are they the same thing? my head hurts now... going to bed, g'nite all)

A stoppage of play doesn't (and shouldn't) necessarily mean a turnover. The defense could knock the ball out of bounds with the offense retaining possession. A shot gets blocked into the stands. A player calls timeout when he's trapped to avoid a 5-second call. Even an occasional jumpball wouldn't necessarily be a possession change.

A stoppage of play does not mean that the possession has to change. I think it's reasonable to expect a stoppage at least every 2 minutes in a game, as that seems to accurately reflect what happens in real life.

Six degrees of WIS:

WIS is an affiliate of FoxSports.
FoxSports is an affiliate of (or owned by) the MSN Network.
The MSN Network is owned by Microsoft.
Microsoft owns Internet Explorer.

This is why the forums have been Firefox-unfriendly for 2+ years - because indirectly WIS is a fourth-cousin of the company that owns IE.
