Hey, don't get me wrong, I've been FOR loosening the minimums for NOMINATION. I just don't think they should be a free-for-all.

Seriously, and I mentioned this earlier, 1000 games played, 250 games started or 350 pitching appearances seems really reasonable. That 58 durability catcher would get a shot and that pitcher who was a starter for 7-8 seasons and a reliever for another 5 would also be eligible.

Holy crap, if people on here had a vote in the actual Hall of Fame, you'd start seeing players like Carlos Delgado, John Franco, Fred McGriff, Jeff Reardon and Mike Mussina in the Hall.

Very little of this discussion has focused on the voting, but instead the nomination and eligibility for nomination...

... and each of the guys you named who could possibly be nominated so far have been (and the others will be). So good point.

I agree that they shouldn't be automatically ruled out... but in reality, how many middle relievers are in the MLB HOF?

I think you are fooling yourself if you believe that half the people posting names only care about nominations. They believe that their guys are actually Hall worthy, that was my only observation.

I think the nomination should have a looser, less "average" feel and be focused on total number of appearances, but most of the ******** in this thread is about why their guy is ultimately getting snubbed from enshrinement.

If you have to ask if someone is a HoFer, then he isn't. It's really that simple.

Fine and dandy for guys that have been in the Majors for 15 years, and we see their lifetime stats.

What about the guys who were already 27-30 years old when the league started? Most league's greatest players are still active. Most of the career leaders in HRs, Wins, Saves, etc. are still piling up stats. The first one or two HOF elections are gonna struggle to find full careers worth rewarding (unless it's a 'tard league and a guy hit 600 homers in 8 years and has already retired)

STOP THE PRESSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

todd made a solid point.

Is a guy with 7-8 seasons really HOF material? We know what he did when he played. Should be guess what he did before HBD was invented?

What about the guy who was forced to stay in AAA until he was 26 because the owner was saving him until the stud blocking him declined? The guy may have been BL-ready at 22. He lost 4 seasons. Should we estimate what he COULD have done?

I'd like to petition patrick right now to NOT let 'tardcomm or iain vote for HOFers in Moonlight Graham.

^^^ that was the point retodd made that I thought was worthwhile. The rest are the crazy ramblings of someone about to be bitchslapped out of the playoffs.

Scarcity of worth HOFers for the first few seasons isn't a problem to me... why should it be?

Too late. patrick has already confirmed that you cannot vote. Just as well this is a baseball game not some canuck curling event.

Even funnier, in the 5 minutes between my two posts, I found 5 retired guys I could vote for in MG.
