Beernoser's Bad Neighbor League Topic

for vilefileman his second dagger- from his 1934 philidelphia a's team, he can say goodbye to Higgins, Pinky because he can hit and it is the only place i can see him being forced to take a cin. player... and he likely wants to roster at least 5 of them as pitchers so it might cause roster issues.

Hi all, I have been back and forth with beernoser on a roster issue and he asked that I put the question to everyone in this forum. Here is the gist of the message I sent to him. Apparently, this has not come up before because the second round dagger is new in it's current form.

Round 1 dagger was for a person (regardless of team) and a ballpark. Ok. I had Jim Gilliam and Cleveland Stadium.

Round 2 is a player only from a PARTICULAR TEAM, right? I picked the 74 Red Sox and had Luis Tiant's really good year daggered. OK, I planned for that but my plan only works IF...

I still get to keep Luis Tiant from the '64 Indians, right? I mean, to me, if Tiant had been daggered in the first round, then ok, maybe he gets daggered from both teams. But in round 2, I specifically chose a team and the rules say the daggered player has to come from that team. So, I get 64 Indians Tiant. Please confirm this is ok. My whole team strategy depends on it (Me picking the A's in the 4th round, me offering the 74 Red Sox in the 2nd round of daggering).
Beernoser specified in the original league post that a dagger applies to all variations of the same player. This is why I assigned you 74 Red Sox and posted about this in my rationale post.
Yes I don't understand the confusion. He made it clear

Here's my proposed solution.

1. This is the first time we've had the second dagger. I like it and plan to include it in future versions of the Neighbor League.

2.My intention was always that a dagger would kill both versions of a player whether it was the first or second round dagger.

3. I can see how the wording for the second dagger is unclear saying that players from only one team would be subjected to the second dagger.

4. I can see how jpeterso left the Indians open to the dagger thinking he had the Red Sox Tiant in safety.

5. My solution is that if jpeterso wants to, he can offer one of his other two teams for the second round dagger. This is an imposition on kentol as he made a great dagger pick and will be asked to make a different one.

6. I think this is the fairest solution I can come up with that takes account jpeterso's legitimate misunderstanding of the rule and also keeps the rule the way I understood it for future versions.

I'm ready to re-do jpeterso's dagger if he wants to offer one of his other teams...

Well, I have a GIANT dagger for the jonstephen25.
I considered Weintraub, but you have a Cinci option at 1b.
So, it comes down to Metwick (OF) or Voiselle (SP).
Both are choices where the alternatives are a downgrade. Voiselle is expensive and the ideal version of your team is certainly over budget.
I went with Joe Medwick (OF), a strong and underpriced hitter wih solid defense.
Anyone else with Medwick can also consider him daggered.

Ok, I can live with that. Pick from the 74 A's then.

I have the 34 Giants looks like your daggering the 44 team. You sure you've got the right guy? Jonstephen25 is supposed to dagger my 44 White Sox.

jpeterso -I still want to limit your options at starting pitcher, so I'll dagger Vida Blue from the '74 A's

Reddtrain you've got backups everywhere but your offense is pretty anemic. We thought of daggering Bebe PInelli with his good glove and solid batting but you have a couple of good fielding no hit 3B to replace him. Then we considered Eppa Rixey but with you most likely rostering Don Gullet you can have a second lefty starter. So we settled on your lack of a .300 hitting OF and are daggering no glove great hitting Edd Roush.

If you haven't had your last dagger thrown at you yet, you might want to sitemail the guy just as a reminder.

DodgerDon,

Could you use your 2nd dagger on my 1954 Cleveland Indians.

Whalers - from the 1944 White Sox there is little to choose from but you do have a cheap SS sub that will force you to use a more expensive option and may make it difficult to find 6 player from them so -

say goodbye to SS - Cass Michaels

I’d be happy to throw a dagger your way.

I’m going to choose Al Rosen 3b as your daggered player. His infield versatility (having a FR at all 4) and not to mention .910 OPS is enough for me to see him sit this one out.

3dayrotation -

My apologies for the delay. I was sidetracked over the holiday weekend by too much fun, family, golf, other WIS drafts and a fantasy football draft. I'd like to say life happens, but the truth is I forgot to send you your 2nd dagger. My sincere apologies.

Your 4-teams have a similar problem to mine and are thin at shortstop. Your best shortstop is probably Roger Peckinpaugh, not a world beater, but serviceable. However, I decided to dagger from your 1934 White Sox Luke Appling. In an $80 million format he would have been a nice piece. Cheap, batted over .300 and enough ABs to give you 140+ games. Say hello to the serviceable Rogger Peckinpaugh.
