So now that we know the method that was being used to unlock scholarships, what exactly is the rule violation?

Cheating

All owners must play by the rules and requirements set forth by each game on our site. If an owner discovers a loophole, a way to cheat, or any other method of giving himself an unfair advantage, WhatIfSports reserves the right to take the necessary steps to correct the issue at any time without prior notification. Refunds or roster changes will not be given to any owner in this situation.

There you go buddy. Imagine reading the rules.

The coaches gave themselves an advantage, but what makes it an "unfair advantage"?

They get recruiting credit without spending any APs. This is an unfair advantage.

Its not a bug though, the mechanic is supposed to give recruiting credit in that scenario.

Edit: The user still had to take action and risk with the decision to inform of redshirt. Its nothing more than a recruiting action, it gets processed at the same time as all other recruiting actions available.

I missed the first cycle in Smith recruiting because of this.

damn you cheaters!!!!! haha
Mission Accomplished guys, we can stop now.
Hahaha I knew it was collusion all along! Cheaters find a way!!

This loophole/cheat also exposes another flaw in this game which I've long hated. Baseline prestige should be removed. You shouldn't have to che at to win with Hawaii or any other school, and if you're at a top school like Duke or North Carolina you shouldn't have training wheels preventing you from falling.

Yeah, but there's no risk when you're not allowed to go negative in recruiting actions (this is what I assumed is the exploit). You start at zero. Add a negative action, but the system doesn't allow you to go negative. Then you get a free positive action by removing it.

You can't go "negative" but it can prevent yourself from going positive.

A free positive action that allows you to unlock 5 star recruits within 2-3 cycles with a minimal amount of AP to boot.

From jc14's post: "The major downside is that sometimes, if the recruit was at a level of quality that would never accept a redshirt from your team, he would get very mad at the "inform of redshirt" and no amount of recruiting effort (including "inform of no redshirt") would make him consider you at all. Everything would be 0% even with like a thousand APs or whatever.. Nothing. So, this "trick" or "hack" as you guys call it, or "viable recruiting gamble" as these guys thought of it, was just that - a gamble. It was of absolutely no use in D2."

But if you use it on dozens of recruits without having to invest any AP then there is no longer any risk. It's not a gamble at that point.

The problem isn't canceling, or pitchforks... it would be lack of any accountability. They can break the rules, break the laws, play the victim, then get a warning. You support *zero* accountability.
