STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS 2009-10 Topic

It would really suck to see the pens/flyers play each other only twice each season.

On the flipside, a home and home with the hawks would be great.

Sorry haven't really had time to come on here much, what with xmas shopping and work and stuff.

I have a couple of questions:

1. For all the criticism the Hawks have taken so far this season, does any other team at this point in time have 2 legitimate Hart Trophy candidates? Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa have played exceedingly well in all 3 zones, scoring big goals, sometimes carrying the other 21 guys on their shoulders and killing penalties. They even almost single-handedly have revived the team's once struggling power-play. Now I'm not blowing smoke up their *****, and I realize this team will not win anything if they only have 19 and 81 giving a consistent effort game in and game out, but watching both guys evolve and play to the height of their ability/potential this season has been a treat.

2. Are there any more obnoxious fans out there than Habs fans or Leafs fans? Probably not, but the Hawks are coming close. Whether it be on facebook walls, twitter, or message boards, fans have traded Bryan Bickell, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, Corey Crawford, Patrick Sharp, Dave Bolland, Michael Frolik, Nik Hjalmarsson and almost everyone not wearing a 19 or 81 on their jersey, AND fired Joel Quenneville, Stan Bowman and even president John McDonough. All that, with a team that might not look pretty doing it some nights, but keeps winning when everyone is talking about them as if their record is reversed (8-16-3). As a hockey fan, this is getting very tiresome and annoying. As a Hawks fan, I'm embarrassed to be sometimes lumped into a group that has such an unrealistic and "bi-polar" view of the team.

As for the proposed re-alignment, I believe sacrificing some match-ups with rivals isn't necessarily a bad idea if it means every market gets at least 2 games with everyone. It will make for a healthier league overall and that is only a good thing. I won't really have any more opinion on that until a more conrete proposal makes it's way to us.

Sorry to rain on your hart trophy parade... But typically hart trophy winners are at the very top of the league in scoring. (Thornton, Sid, Ovechkin, Sedin, Perry). Currently neither Toews nor Hossa are in the top 5. Legit contenders? Not yet imo.

Hawks will stay the course and should. Do I think they go to the Stanley Cup with this team, no. Could they make the playoffs, sure. I bet they pick up a mid-talent dman like a Tim Gleason to add more depth before the deadline. They have the cap for that.

Hawks fans are the worst cause they know very little about hockey, except over the last 2 seasons. It's not necessarily their fault... hawks management refused to televise the team locally. I still like a Kane trade for quality assets... But not because the team has won and lost ugly too many times this season... Moreso to balance the team like the flyers did. jmo.

Meh...if they each scored 140 pts, I somehow think you would find some reason for them not be "contenders" for any trophy lol.

I was actually toying with a Kane-for-Bobby Ryan+ trade...it would be interesting...shake-up for the Ducks, who are loaded with PFs, and a PF for the Hawks.

That would be great for the hawks. They truly need another physical top 6 forward with talent.

It's too bad the flyers aren't in on local kid Bobby Ryan. I don't think I'd trade JVR for him, although it would be close, I like JVRs 6 year contract.

Thing is... New coach means Ryan stays imo.

Then you have one legit contender.

Actually, by your criteria, Pat Kane is a "legit" contender as well (tied for 4th in points and 1st in assists). However for anyone watching the Hawks, they know Hossa has both been more consistent and more valuable to his team than Kane. That's why I think having a statistical requirement for any award, let alone the MVP is a little non-sensical. But if you wants stats, Hossa is top 10 in goals, assists, points, plus/minus, and SHG. Can any other player say he's in the top 10 in that many categories?

I was only making a fact-based observation.  the last 8 winners were all in the top 3 for NHL scoring....
