I think we are overlooking the obvious: in an ingenious take on the gyroball, uncleal is one of the few people known to man who can actually throw a boomerang ball.

Using a special throwing motion, he can impart such a spin on the ball that it will actually reverse its course and fly directly into the first baseman's mitt, much as a sharply-hooked bowling ball finds its pocket.

Of course, to arrive in the same amount of time as a righthanded 2B's throw, it would have to reach a speed that would probably kill the 1B on impact, so I'd assume this is theoretical for now.

I like that concept, though, zlions. So he throws the ball straight at the pitcher, and it hooks 90 degrees to the while moving 95 mph. That's something the kid could work with.

Naw, man...if he's facing 3B, it would still be awkward to make the transition to throwing it toward the pitcher. The only thing that makes sense is backhanding it 90 ft to 1B.
