MLD World Thread #2 Topic

Just wanted to add, in Berner's case, his player card will show him as only playing for one team....Yorkton.

*IF*, Roswell had mistakenly played Berner for a single game before dealing him to Yorkton, that would have disqualified his eligibility to become Yorkton's FP...... cuz in that case, Berner's player card would show a "Previous Team" line.... And sadly Yorkton's management would be SOL and would have to lay the blame on the Roswell GM.

*****************

So in summary, if the player's player card shows he played for a previous team....even if it is just 1 game, he CANNOT be your FP.

If a player's player card shows that he has only played for your team, he is OK to become your FP.

*****************

I don't know about you, but that sounds easy to understand and fair enough.... what do you think?

I agree with this. As was mentioned before, if it wasn't for the the way the draft was set up any GM getting draft picks from another team would be picking in that spot.

I had a slightly different situation a few seasons back. I specificly requested certain players that were drafted by other teams. (Oino and Prusi) Neither player played a game for their drafting teams, but I wasn't allowed to make either one of them my FP because of the trade. If you look at their player cards neither one has a previous team spot.

Is this something that's going to have to be looked at too? I only ask because if we start getting into the point of if a player ever played for their drafting team or not before being traded then this could cause problems in the future. Or am I over thinking this?

yer overthinking it :P

I don't recall/remember the situation you mentioned where you weren't allowed to make either of them your FP..... but my apologies if you were told you couldnt make them an FP back then. I dunno what I was thinking if I said you couldnt do that back then..... I must have been high or something! lol

From now on, and I will add this to the "Official MLD Rules" post on page 1 of this thread......I think its easiest if we go with the summary I mentioned above as a determiner as to whether or not a player can be named any given team's FP. And that summary is

*****************

If the player's player card shows he played for a previous team....even if it is just 1 game, he CANNOT be your FP.

If a player's player card shows that he has ONLY played for your team, he is OK to become your FP.

*****************

Cool?

I would think that it should be owner courtesy that if you are drafting a player for another team, that player should never go near your starting lineup.

You would have to sign him, bring him up from the minors and insert him into a starting position. The only way this should happen is if you forgot you dealt away that draft pick in the first place, and the responsibility for that would lie with both owners who were involved in the deal.

Sounds fair & easy to police okp (my thoughts when posting before also).

HOF voting season 9 status

17 GMs with replies, 1 more have told me votes should be in soon, the last 6 MIA have received sitemails...

So far we have 2 players looking good for HOF spots, both @ 87,5%... 22 players out of 40 with votes...
6/21/2008 6:27 PM
Man, you guys are tough. The five guys I voted for, I considered slam dunks.
6/21/2008 7:32 PM
Yeah I'm also surprised damag.

Btw the ones you picked are currently ranked in the top 6, and the two of us are the only GMs with those 5 on the ticket...

The voting this time around was really tough. There were a lot of slam dunk FPs to choose from, but then there's also the first couple waves of retired players that are very deserving of being in the HoF, IMHO.

Agreed with drive. Should we maybe waive/extend the period for players dropping off the ballot? There were some guys who I've voted for in the past who I couldn't vote for this time.

I hear you guys... we set the rules to make sure the ones with votes could be in the voting pool for max 5 seasons. Now after next vote this means all the season 6 retired players are out. Either we extend the period or maybe we can make the ones with votes in 5 polls come back after a while... like one more try after 5 more seasons? Will be a lot for me to keep an eye on though, but it could be done.

Maybe anyone who ever received more than XX% of any given years votes (say 25%?) should remain on the ballot for 10 seasons, at which time if still not voted in they would be transferred over to a "Veterans Committee" for closer review (i.e. to assess Hall suitability given the "offensive era" the player played in) and then either admitted to the Hall as a Vet or dropped from the ballot altogether?

I love you too, Rogie, but being the only good Kings goalie ever... well, you're a Kings HOFer for sure. I have already accepted that the best New West Bruins goalie ever ain't squat to no one else.
