Might have been the MikeT alarm... he thinks there something VERY IMPORTANT that can be learned by the one game each season where a team strikes out 14+ times.

74 games? Hmmmm.....

1/162
OR
74/2430?
Hmmmmmm... yeah, that seems valuable. Either way. HUGE.
2/21/2008 2:40 PM
well if you compare those 14+ k games to all the other games that arent 14+ k's then you have 2430. Problem solved.

Why would it kick in at 14k?
Because it's only preferable to have the ball in play for an out (versus a K) if it's during a 14k game?
I thought you guys made it very clear that you think it's ALWAYS preferable to have the ball in play for an out, instead of a strikeout.

I think looking at the mode of runs scored for each # of strikeouts (0 to x) over all games would be beneficial. Don't know an easy way to do that though.
2/21/2008 2:57 PM
The mode?
Are you serious?
Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

keep referring back to your lame article while I search for an alternative way to view the relationship whether it enhances my point of view or not.

Im going to go to a game and hang up "G.O." banners after every ground ball out.
2/21/2008 3:03 PM
14 = more than 50% of the recorded outs.
If an out is an out, that's the only way to compare since we're unlikely to have any 27 K or 27 contact outs.
If the majority of the outs are ???, how many runs does the team score?
2/21/2008 3:09 PM
10
You said one was enough to convince you.
2/21/2008 3:11 PM
If it only happens once in '08, I'll be content to lose the bet.
How much are you willing to wager?
Or would you like to give me the Giants and 10 in the Super Bowl?
2/21/2008 3:13 PM
I don't care about the bet itself.
You lose the argument.

Guaranteed. Willing to bet on it. Any takers?
I already showed you examples of teams scoring well above league average and striking out 14 or more times.

Do I win the bet?

2 of 74 isn't a majority. We can work it either way. Average runs or individually(majority wins). Whichever works for you
How much
You said it was guaranteed. "If 50% or more of the outs are strikeouts, a team will score less than the league average. Guranteed."

I showed you a team that did score more than league average. I win.

Heh heh heh.
