nice loss to the suns - get a new coach
2/20/2012 9:40 AM
Get a new Coach - why?  Brown actually has this team playing Defense for the 1st time in a decade.  No coach is going to transform Fish and Metta back into NBA players.  All Lakers' fans should be screaming at the FO, not the Coach or players.  Sessions and Jamison are there for the taking.  Two guys who fill the exact needs the Lakers have.  Forget the pipe-dream of Williams and Howard and get the job done.  Two 1st (and Luke for salary) will do it.  I like a Sessions/Kobe/Jamison/Gasol/Bynum line-up with Blake/Goldi/Barnes/Murph/McB bench a heck of a lot better than any other option thrown around.

you said "brown has this team playing defense":do you mean the team that allowed a 63 point first half outburst from the suns?
you said "for the first time in a decade" :the lakers have been a top 10 defensive squad most of the decade - including 5th, 6th, 4th and 6th place in drtg in the last 4 years and btw they're in 10th place in terms of drtg this year so they've actually dropped off under Brown

and in the past what they've also been was a top 10 offensive squad which most decidedly they arent now also thanks to Brown; now they're #16 while last year they were #6 (and Fish and Metta werent all that much better last year btw)

now as far as my beef with the front office goes? last night was the Suns - we've got plenty enough talent to beat the suns if only we had a different coach

a coach who doesnt play his 33 year old star player 40 minutes in blow out double digit losses on the first game of a back-to-back (again, see also Florida)
a coach who plays his best bench player more than 11 minutes and his worst bench player less than 18 minutes
a coach who plays the center who is shooting 7/12 (59%) and scoring 16pts and 10 rebounds for the night more than 28 minutes
a coach who institutes a practical offense for the players he has - this is not college where you build a system and recruit into it - this is the pros where you look at what you've got and adapt to it or you get fired
a coach who has the team ready and focused instead
a coach who does some damn thing when the opponent goes on a run (I thought Phil was bad)

anyway Sessions for a pick is probably their fall-back if the Howard situation doesnt work out in their favor

but Jamison is most certainly not there for the taking, his 15m contract is expiring after this season the cavs will be more than happy to take that off their books and use it to rebuild around Kyrie Irving (and btw Luke is only making 6m and you cant combine anything with the TPE, your math doesnt work)

Lakers are in salary cap hell right now. Their big 3 are getting 58M, which is alright I guess, but Metta, Walton, Fisher, and Blake are getting $20M this season and next.

The roster construction is so terrible beyond Kobe, Bynum, and Pau I don't think it matters who the coach is.

Didn't realize the TE couldn't be combined, so I'm not sure how Jamison would be included, but I still think Cleveland would love to get a 1st Rd pick and shed over $7 million in salary this season.  Why wouldn't they?

because a) Irving's health is a concern b) they get to shed 15m when the season is done as is - dont get me wrong Sessions could cure a lot of what ails us in the short term and may still be available but I think Mitch has his eye on a bigger prize and until that situation (or those situations) resolve themselves one way or another he wants to be as flexible as possible

meanwhile it was the suns - its not like we were playing the heat and then sure its time to say we just dont measure up but no this was the suns and with a day of rest between games

talks heating up over sessions

nice win over dallas

big game tonight in OKC and then we go into the a*brk

just get sessions asap, kobe/pau/bynum is such an unreal trio and fish and metta just ruin everything.
2/23/2012 11:51 AM
hung tough against the thunder in the first half but couldn keep up in the second - tired? probably but could have used a little more production from someone/anyone - Pau was the only positive

Kobe played like crap. Took the game personal vs Harden and it hurt the team with his terrible shot selection.

I wish he'd taken Harden more personally since Harden kept breaking out ahead of him and getting early easy offense

how about trevor ariza? the hornets have to pay him 7m per for another 2 years after this season and they're all about economy

Ariza would be real good on the Lakers.  But if you're saving the TPE for a PG, you can't really do anything to add him.  You'd have to include Walton to match salaries, and since Walton isn't expiring you can't just get the deal done by adding a late 1st rounder.  Don't think the Lakers have enough goodies to make that AND sessions happen- it's gotta be one or the other.  Maybe you can try to pry Casspi from Cleveland as well and hope he works out better in LA?

Your options are real limited- Dudley + Sessions would be the perfect split of the TPE, but I doubt that Phoenix wants to dump Dudley for a pick.  Too bad you can't go back in time and re-sign Ariza instead of Ron Ron and beat the Knicks to Lin.

some dude out of comcast in new england is saying the Lakers are about to sign Rasheed Wallace - all the local LA radio guys are calling bull on this but it apparently is a thing
