Can someone explain the fascination with Kershaw? He's not a top 5 pitcher and his performance doesn't exceed that of several others in the same $/ip range. And only 149 innings.
Divide his IP and $ in 2, and you basically have 2 very good relievers. Not peak-Rivera level, but very good. And left-handed - I think only Kuo and one of the Wagner seasons do better. (Maybe Britton too if you can live with walks and are paranoid about HR.)

Then in the playoffs he basically turns into 3-4 Milackis. You can easily run him out for games 1, 3 and 5 of an LDS. And in WISC, where LDS counts for a lot (8 points for winning + a lottery ticket in the later rounds with another 7-8 points of expected value), that's huge.

And all that for 1 draft pick. It's a pretty good deal.

I mean, it was still a dumb draft pick and it will probably cost me the whole tournament thanks to all the penalty points I'm about to accrue. I should have just taken another good reliever or a platoon player if I wanted to maximise expected value. But it did have some upside.

Sorry guys. Been a crazy morning at work. Very concerned about this mid-draft rule change. But I'll go with

This feels a bit like changing the rules mid draft. It doesn’t affect my team - the Lave Cross pick means I’ll have someone draftable at C and the other spots aren’t that hard to fill. But I think in general if the rules are ambiguous then they should be interpreted generously not strictly once the draft starts.
To be clear, this isn't relating to secondary positions. What I'm referring to is a way to draft a player at a position they aren't even rated at (i.e. Lave Cross in the 2B slot).

I wasn't asking about out-of-position hitters it's not rare and I don't think it's a big deal. I asked about using a 14th pitcher in a hitter slot. I don't even know if it's possible but if there is a loophole that would be a major game changer.

If others feel strongly about I'm ok with reconsidering if we make the way to do it known to all. It isn't a strategy, it's closer to a glitch in the Draft Center. I don't feel great about some people having access to that and others not.

Thank you for not allowing this. It feels like playing a game with a cheat code that others know and I don't. I would've approached my draft strategy differently had I known about this.

I think that this is the better route. I doubt anyone here would have any reason to consider this as a strategy going into the draft, but, honestly it did cross my mind in the last couple of days as a fail-safe for if (when?!) things go horribly awry. Regardless of the fact that it is a glitch, it is available to be taken advantage of in a pinch. Just make sure that it is accessible to everyone by hunting down the old forum post and linking it here. Hopefully none of us will have to resort to it.

You can't use the trick to draft a pitcher in a hitter slot. I didn't know whether it was possible so I just tried it, and it doesn't work.

That is, you can't use the ordinary way to do out-of-position drafting to get it to work. Maybe maybe there's another way, but I don't see it.

I have to run now, but I can post the instructions for doing out-of-position drafting if need be. They aren't *that* hard.

I have at least one draft pick already that, had I known about this I would not have drafted.

This feels like a cheat.

Why can't owners just draft within the functions of the game?

This is a tough call because some owners are aware of it and may have incorporated it into their strategy and others are not aware of it and thus strategized as such. I think we should just let ozomatli make the decision since he is the commissioner and live with it.

Ok I figured it out. Here's how you do it:
  1. Draft the player you want in any draft slot
  2. Copy the URL when you get back to the team page
  3. Delete the player from your team
  4. Paste the copied URL into the URL bar. It should end in something like the following spot=4&playerid=1234567
    1. The spot=x number indicates which draft slot you want the player in. C = 1, 1B = 2, etc.
  5. Change the spot=x number to the draft slot you want to draft the player in

Again, my preference is that no one uses this at all, but I am aware that it could be seen as changing the rules mid-draft, which is also a no-go, so making it publicly known is probably the best approach. I will think on this today and have a final decision by tomorrow. Feel free to share any other opinions between now and then.
