SONGS YOU MAY HAVE MISSED
here is an ongoing list of songs that you probably never heard...some ffrom the above list...some not that i highly reccomend.
1. DANDY - ian hunter.....a tribute by ian hunter from the leader of mott the hoople recorded shortly after bowie left earth.....not just a tribute but a thank you for all theyoung dudes and bowie's jumpstart for the hoople......stirring and beautiful song.
2. FOR ME - the sugar twins.......really great fun,sexy,clever pop delectable from a group that would have had a gigantic hit if it came out as a 45 in the 60s
and got the airplay it would have gotten.......lots of fun this record.
3. SUB ROSA SUBWAY - klaatu........for a while literally millions thought this group was a collection of some of the beatles.....this song from circa 1976 is incredibly mccartney wings like......but not a rip off of any particular song....music and lyrics rock....a must listen for any beatles fan.
4. RE - BRIAN MAY - did you know that brian may - the great guitarist of queen is also an astrophysicist......and a highly respected one...for real......this is no joke.
5 .YOU WANT IT DARKER - leonard cohen knowing he is dying and decries a vengeful god in an opus to inexplicable suffering and anger towards his lord.
a more powerful song in music and words you will not find.....a sad culmination to his lifelong spiritual journey.
6. MANUTE BOL - kenn kweder - this is one of the funniest songs you will ever hear...an ode and tribute to giant nba center manute bol.....there is a live minute of it on youtube...listen to the entire studio recording on spotify....you will laugh.
7. THE WAY I WALK - robert gordon - along with the stray cats and the cramps ..robert gordon spearheaded a rockabilly revival in the late 7os.
robert gordon has a voice that puts him in the company of elvis and roy orbison.....and he has agenuine love of the music...listen to the way i walk and get transported.
8. SHADES OF GRAY - the monkees - idealistic lyrics of the late 60s enveloped in gorgeous music.....a lesser known gem.
9. RIDE CAPTAIN RIDE - blues image - circa 1970.......magic puffy pop with a bit of sly and family stone soul.......if i had a juke box this song would go in it.
10. TEENAGE KICKS - the undertones - perfectly structured r and r song...wild guitar parts...john peel said this is his favorite rock and roll song...nuff said.
11. GOING UNDEGOUND - the jam......there is a reason why the jam was every bit as popular as the police during the new wave explosion in england.....this song rocks with the power of who's next .
12. GLAD BAGS AND HAND RAGS - rod stewart - circa 1969. i dont know if this song was ever popular but it knocked me out the fist time i heard it.
sentimental lyrics in a gorgeous melody........a beautiful ballad that you will not be able to hear just once.
13. THIS IS THE DAY - the the...........from 1983......very well structured song..very circular...big melody .....tune and voice very much like vintage omd....good song......from excellent album called soul mining.
14. WOMAN IS THE N***** OF THE WORLD - john lennon/ yoko ono........this is the leadoff song of the most underrated album in rock and roll history ( imo ) do not send me angry letters.....but i really mean it......this song is possibly the most explosive and defiant and soaring song in lennon's career....the music is thrilling...the lyrics would have made lenny bruce bow down.....this song and album are required music.......the songs are studio but sound live....the yoko songs have strong melody..yes they do....i love this album.....raw...pure.....honest....challenging.....invigorating....this is true evolved rock and roll......the song here must be turned up loud..and then just thrill to the vibe....it is a clarion call of a song....makes you wish lennon was here to see the new congress.
15. DR WU - steely dan......one of my fav from one of my fav album...whatzitabout...who cares..it is vintage dan....
16. YOU'RE THE BOSS - elvis presley / ann margaret........sexy song from viva las vegas soundtrack....a classic lieber and stoller song....
17. THE BEAST - the only ones.....this is the group that did another girl..another planet.....the best way that i can describe the sound of this song and the group is to picture........ some dylan..some velvet underground.....some zeppelin......one of the guitarists came from spooky tooth...this is a cool song by a cool group.
18. GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY - the sonics...from 1965 by the true first original garage band..they invented it....there are lots of great covers thru history but there are none better then this one.
