they might have afew potential 2nd liners. Then again most of them are so young. None of them are killing it at the ahl level though.
Pirri is. He's having a nice season. AHL success doesn't necessarily translate into NHL success though.
If you ask me, here's how the Hawks prospects break down as of today:
Potential top 6 forwards: Saad, Pirri, McNeill
Checking line forwards with some scoring upside: Danault, Morin
Energy line players: Paradis
Unpredictables: Beach, Hayes bros., Rensfeldt
Top 4 defensemen: Dylan Olsen
3rd pairing defensemen or special teams specialists: Klas Dahlbeck, Shawn Lalonde, Stephen Johns, Justin Holl, Adam Clendening
Goaltender with best chance at steady NHL job (likely as backup): Johan Mattsson
All in all, I'd say they have one of the deepest groups in terms of players who have a realistic shot at the NHL at some point. Not a real high end player like a Jaden Schwartz, but lots of organizational depth, which is a hallmark of the Detroit model the Hawks are trying to build. The thing is because they won so soon, some people forget that that organizational "build" is really only 3-4 years old. They're well on their way to having a steady influx of decent NHL bodies. Now they just need to find the diamonds in the rough like the Red Wings have been so good at. I believe Brandon Saad was one of those.
