It's Skidmore. Some really nice talent there, but they definetly aren't geared for man to man, so the new coach will probably have to switch them to zone. I'm getting cold feet now, do you think admin would let me pull a "Donovan"?

FWIW, I'd wait a bit to switch to zone (mostly because I abhor the 2-3 now, 3-2 is OK, but I'm definently becoming much more of a m2m guy) Using my chicago squad a couple of seasons back, I recruited a team to play zone, but after growing to hate it, switched to man. I still had several players that I thought were ill fitted for man, but ran w/ them anyways. What I found was that as long as you had good speed & ath, you could cover up for lower DE ratings in D3. Skidmore, might have DE a notch too low, but he's got some great speed at the gaurd/SF spots. His defense wasn't too bad this year, but youth definently did him in.
Anyhoo, some fuel for thought.

The conference I'm in with that alias just isn't that great; no offense to the current coaches over there, we just don't have enough NT/PI teams each year to get the conference going. Plus that team was really a Defensive experiment team that just ended up being decent because of a weak schedule. Hopefully I'll get in and can be a member of both DIII power conference in Wooden.
you can join me in that respect. i coach rhodes in the UAA. and they will be looking to knock you off that top spot next season.

Yeah, I decided to pull my application anyway, so it should still be available goodtymes. The D ratings scared me off. Glad you joined the UAA mrpolo, we need more coaches like you in the east. You've got some really nice young talent at Rhodes.

I almost forgot about this. Congrats to Sigsoho, who has proven he knows more about the Upstate than any of the coaches currently in the upstate. You sir, are awesome....cue awesome award...

What amazed me is the Winner of the North...9 coaches participated, selecting 4 different schools to win the North, yet no one got it.
Now clearly no one saw RPI winning the North. But if you'd have been told RPI would win the North yet not make post-season play, I think you'd have thought the person making that statement to be nuts. Especially if you were to add that "Oh by the way, the Upstate will be--by a good margin--the highest RPI conference"...

Sigs clearly rocks us...(thanks to Memphis Jan wherever you are)...

Thanks for the award, but i would have much rathered gone undefeated against the Upstate. At least I can try it again this year.

Brandeis Pre-Season Outlook: Recruiting period has come & gone. The squad returned 10 players, including 4 of the 5 starters. Loss of Mann hurt as he could play the 3-5 spots legitimately, but the team should be fine. Team & class balance are fine, so the priority was to recruit a successor to Hogan. I think I found that in Brandt, who has nice speed, some rebounding ability (something Brandeis needs), and can shoot FTs. Need to work on ball handling, but since he will be redshirted he should be more than ready to contribute next season when Hogan departs.
Rounding out the class is Frith, who given the relative youth of the frontcourt will not be expected to contribute for around 2-3 seasons at which time he should be a team asset. Again, he brings rebounding skills but needs to develop other areas of his game. Overall, very satisfied with the class and--more importantly--it met my needs. Next season the plan will be to recruit a SF to redshirt...
For the upcoming season, the schedule is tough again; heck, even just the conference games in Upstate make an otherwise pedestrian OOC schedule shape up pretty good. I fully expect the team to make the WCAA as an at-large team after a 2 year absence and I also expect the team to threaten for the conference title (the presence of Chicago truly makes it appear to be merely a threat in pre-season), but to settle for the #2 seed in the CT. I'm prediciting a 7-3 OOC record, an 11-5 conference record, and 3-2 post-season record, for a season record of 21-10 overall record.
Now let's see if I can meet or exceed that expectation!

Taz - saw your post on the CC. I would be amazed if I could go into the Chicago game undefeated. That means I would have beat Polo, VD, and Cbriese. Not sure if that is going to happen. Of course if I do, that doesn't help me against you.

You've definently got the tougher route over the next 3. G/l
I assume sigs and many of the other coaches in this conference that typically play a tough OOC schedule have noticed the same thing, but when you start to look at the OOC schedules of the our OOC opponents, they all kind of look the same. Seems like there is about a contigent of 30-40 coaches that all play 6-8 OOC games against one another every season here in Wooden.

I just started to pick-up the same thing taz. Looking at some schedules, it seems to be the who's who of Wooden DIII coaches. I really enjoy the tougher schedule, especially when the Freedom conference was full of Sim Teams, because it helps prepare me for the NT.
It isn't a far stretch to think that I would have to play ahausla, bspisak, polo, vd, cbriese, taz, and fussyd in a NT tourny run.

GG polo - you had me on the ropes.
