Wow, I thought we were just going to get sandlot practice video. He's planning to do the salt shaker and the Ninja star and the Exorcist twist during a game! Or the boomerang. Man, this is gonna be awesome!

This may have been posted, but here is why there are no handed throwing catchers:

I agree with the first link - there's no great argument that there couldn't be a perfectly fine y catcher. But, you know, the infield thing kind of speaks for itself.

Goddammit, who let the y 2B thread slip to the second page?

5 days to the alleged filming.

I am waiting with bated breath.

Seriously, stand up and pretend you're turning two. Then describe what you do. Step by step.
1. I stand touching 2nd base, looking at 3rd base.

2. I take the throw from either 3B or SS.

3. My arm reaches into my glove and pulls the ball out.

4. My arm goes back my hand and the ball are about even length-wise, but higher than, my shoulder.

4 and a half. My head and torso pivots about 80 or so degrees toward 1st as I am making move 4. However, my legs do not move. This does not use any time as it uses the same time as 4 does.

5. I fire the ball to 1st. The ball will drop as the angle is not a straight 90 (too much loss of speed there), but it will still reach 1B before it hits the ground.

6. 1B goes low and snags the ball. Double play.
This may be my favorite post of the lot. Point 5 is brilliant in it's idiocy. And I love how he's setting himself up to get obliterated in point 4.5 by not getting out of the way of the runner.

Gold, Jerry....GOLD!

I like the part in 4 and one half where he says "However, my legs do not move". This I got to see.Would it be too much to ask that it be a hit and run when he tries to pull this stunt?

The whole things is hilarious. Point 1 - you never stand touching second base. You semi-straddle the bag on the CF corner so that, regardless of which direction the throw takes you, you can drag a foot across (or near enough) the bag. Stand touching the base and you're bound to either get pulled off by a bad throw or killed by the incoming runner. Point 3 makes it sound like he has no hands - he reaches in with his arm. That must make it really tough to turn two. 4.5 and 5 are self-explanatory in their ridiculousness. Point 5 makes him sound like my eight year old twins: "I got it there in the air, daddy!" "Good work, son. I found a pot of gold at the end of your throw, too!"

You guys are picking holes in the Exorcist technique. But you know damn good and well that by using the Salt Shaker or the Ninja Star technique, he can turn two with the best of them. Jury's still out on the Boomerang.

I'm surprised nobody has brought up the possibility of the "long snapper" technique.
3/9/2008 7:58 PM
Wouldn't that be a more difficult throw since he'd have to avoid hitting the the head he has up his ***?

Fair point.
