HAVE YOU TRIED AGAIN, KEMO SABE??!?!?!??!??!?!

Cable news is to news as bumper stickers are to philosophy.  I think even Mike realizes that, but alas, old "Works Smart Not Hard" has to frequently defend a ridiculous position in order to keep the argument going.

I'm guessing you didn't bother to read very much of this thread.   But I guess that hasn't stopped you from forming an opinion.   Good job.

For those who failed to follow along, I said eliminating TV as a news source is just silliness.   Olbermann might comment on something.   That doesn't mean it's not a legit news item.   If it interests you, you can look into it further.   If it doesn't, you can treat it like women's lacrosse scores and ignore it.   The messenger doesn't have to give you all the details.  It's up to you to get them.

It's not silliness to eliminate garbage from your news diet.  There are only so many hours in a day.  As an example, one well-written article in The New Yorker on the Koch brothers will tell me more about the Tea Party than watching Fox or CNN 24/7 for a solid year could.  I don't need posturing and bullshit and spectacle; I want information.  And TV isn't the best place to get it.

So you get one opinion and that's good enough for you?   That sounds like a well-rounded news diet.  You must be super-informed.

Oh, Mike.  Does that trick ever work?
8/23/2011 12:46 PM
No trick involved.   You either read one article and are good on all topics for the day or you don't.     TV can give you a dozen topics and 10 minutes.   Then you can decide if you're interested enough to seek more info.   Or you can spend 10 minutes reading one article on one topic and feel good about yourself.    It's obvious which option you choose.

I get all my news from the Onion!

8/23/2011 1:30 PM
So I said I read one article and was good on that topic, forever?

Do you think misrepresenting people's words in a crude and obvious way fools anyone?

I've read about the Tea Party in plenty of places (New Yorker, NYT, Guardian, Harper's, Atlantic, blogs, etc.).  But somehow to you, saying that one of the articles I read is better than anything cable news has to offer means that's the only thing I've ever read on the Tea Party.

You can do better than that, Mike.

Have a look at Mike's post count. It's clear he believes enough in quantity over quality. It also demonstrates the value of working smarter rather than harder gives you enough free time to post as much as he does while devouring information from different media. It's what allows him to make those compelling arguments and tough judgments that have won him so much respect on these forums.

Rather than picking apart his arguments with bloodless logic, we should be saluting Mike for his generosity in imparting his wisdom on these forums while managing to stay on top of current events. Plus finding funny photos to illustrate his points about "pompous ********" and so forth. Pure genius.

Managing his daytimer must be a nightmarish juggling act but Mike manages to pull it off effortlessly. I, for one, applaud him for it.

Finally, when you've got fellow travellers with the intellectual heft of swamphawk on your side in a debate, it's really tough to argue the point. It's probably best if you yield now lest Mike blocks you. It's lonely here on the forum's Elba.

I find it amazing that with all the people he blocks he can still find someone to **** on.
