Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-South Carolina, one of the four authors of the GOP memo released Friday, told CBS News' "Face the Nation" that he believes a surveillance warrant for former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page would not have ever been authorized without the existence of the controversial "Steele dossier."
There was a Russian investigation going on long before the dossier. The "memo" is obfuscation at it's best.
So is Gowdy a liar?
It’s irrelevant. Personally, I think he is, but it doesn’t matter.
A) It was perfectly OK to use the dossier as part of the probable cause case. It was disclosed as political opposition research.
B) The actual genesis of the Carter Page investigation was the George Papadopoulos investigation.
C) The Page warrant was renewed at least three times and each renewal must be presented with new information. Law enforcement can’t use the same case to justify the renewal. The investigation must have been fruitful for a renewal.
