the highly overrated Green Day

"When September Ends" was ok commercially and the story and vid are heart tuggers. Some of their way back stuff was ok that nobody knows about unless you knew them early or stuck with them from their coffee shop and small venue days. Growing up SF Bay Area with a musical icon father (Grammy voter) was a blast roadie'ing to countless events big and small and during sets me and my bro looking for the alcohol storage. I used to like Bacardi but kept getting sick on 151 cuz I didn't know what that meant at the time. We knew about Green Day and where their regular gigs and hangouts were before they were 'discovered'. For those who've heard of/remember legendary Tower Records, G'Day ran up massive sales in the 'local artists' section, thanx in no small part to their stuff being alphabetically right beside the Grateful Dead for unawares non-locals to 'accidentally' find. Good times.
You could be right. I have only heard one song by them that I thought was ok out of about 10.
I base my opinion on hearing about 10 songs.

i love green day

my kid had all the CDs when he was tennish

then he started going to mosh pit concerts with his uncle and they became to him 'bubble gum'

so i got em

to me green day is the natural evolutionary end point to punk
punk/alternative; call it what you want but yeah late80s/early90s morphed toward dollar chasing and escaped their roots. Blink, etc. Seatte-ites have similar stories of Nirvana. Even Grateful Dead die-hards will tell you that their commercially biggest 'hit' Touch of Gray is trash and was about a buck which was fine in that it helped finance another decade of the caravan crusades. Still remember being in Golden Gate Park for yet another music thingy when word was going around about Jerry Garcia's death and everyone in zombie mode. I got a couple stories also about early views of The Go-Go's when on family vacation to SoCal Disneyland/Knotts Berry Farm/Gram-n-Gramps and tagging along with dad to some of his early stomping grounds when he lived there and met my mom cocktailing at a 90 cent beer club. I remember that a really really really pretty Jane slaying a guitar was the thing. Belinda ? meh, not so much.
I’m being honest when I say that to me Green Day was the death knell for good punk. No edge.
No blistering guitar no swagger no danger.
of the 10 songs I heard it just bored me.

There was an extremely interesting Pew Research survey from 2021 of American Christians. I commend the looking into it. One of the most interesting findings for me is that they found that 32% of Christian ( born into and /or identifying ) do not believe in any type of biblical God. Rather they believe in simply a self defining higher power.

That is fascinating to me because that is a very high percentage that does not even include atheists/agnostics. I’m guessing with them included we are talking 40% at least.

The country is changing regarding religion in a definite trend

Agreed Matt. Jesus weeps............still.
Some round these parts need to learn to be still........seek to be humble.
Like me.

Yup. All the woke folks are aware that change starts within.
It's why I'm determined to be eco aware.
A good steward and all that.

I'm rigging up a hose to the 'ol 2 holer.

Whether from convenience or choice or minimization people change or water-down God's unchangeable character and word while Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever." I said it before about something else recently but on that day when it's too late a lot of people will be in for a big sprise for mocking Jesus when they think they're doing alright. Real Christians filled with the Holy Spirit are saddened by such 'findings' of above as we and Christ weep.
I respect that point of view characteristically if you know me.

I come from a point of view that I should question answers and try to answer questions.

People not growing up with worries and fear about religion are just different and that is just basic human nature.

I am very glad that religion is not necessary to whatever I might think and I can thank the culture that I was born into. Believe it or else is the opposite of freedom or goodness for that matter.
I will never believe in an insecure God. Thank God.

Time will tell but there could be a large number of extreme left dems who will not vote for anyone if Biden runs. It could effect the electoral college.

Newsome May have to run if he can take a position on Israel that won’t anger the extreme left. A lot of the independent left as well might do the unthinkable.

Danger Will Robinson Danger.

I will never believe in an insecure God.

Being a pupet-master or turning us into robots to do exactly as He wants us to do would be insecure of Him. You can thank Him later when you see Him briefly for allowing you to write your own ticket. He cares about you, yes even you, enough to let you make your own choice. That's security in Self if I've ever seen it.

You have no rival
You have no equal
Now and forever God You reign
Yours is the kingdom
Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name above all names
If you are taught believe OR you go to hell that is the very definition of believe it or else.

I would prefer that people don’t commit crimes not because they don’t want to go to jail but because they are moral people.

Fundamentalist Christianity is a believe it or else religion.

With all due respect I do not understand your certainty of everything that happens in heaven. You surmise but obviously you do not know unless you died and came back from the dead.

This must be the whataboutism deflection part of the show. Nobody said anything about rules or eternal mysteries. You spit in God's face. Again. Still. Good luck with that.
Because I don’t agree with you does not mean that I am spitting at you or your god.
I don’t know what you think I am deflecting from.
I have not debated your beliefs at all.
If I was a Christian I would have a different concept of God and Jesus.
That is not spitting.

The only person mocking or angry is you. It is a shame.

I am not threatened by your proclamations. It doesn’t mean anything.
10/25/2023 7:44 PM
nobody who posts here proclamations mean anything

Just for the record, this is my religion: I believe in the religion of I Dont Know. So you can say that I am agnostic. Science, neither proves Nor disproves the existence of God.
If there is a God, I do not believe that God is an interventionist. If there is a heaven, it would be for people who try to do good, and do good without reference to any religious belief.

As for those who have a particular organized religious belief, I have nothing negative to say to them. Some people are attracted to religion, and some people are not. People who are attracted to religion, or mostly in the camp of one of the three Bibles or two out of the three Bibles. That is fine and I don’t have any negative thought about it.
10/25/2023 8:10 PM
Finally, some people need religion in their life. They need an organized religion. I have no intention of trying to explain my beliefs regarding that. I can only say that for myself I feel that I am a liberated individual, who is not attracted to religion, and I do not need religion to have a full life.

I don’t criticize any individual for worshiping as they wish belonging to any organized religion. But I do believe that nothing good has come from any of the organized religions, except war, and bloodshed and various genocide’s. They have contributed nothing good for the world. I believe that there is I believe, and I know by reputable polling companies, actually several, that there is a growing and increasing f
trend away from the belief of
belonging to any organized religion. More and more people now simply belief generally speaking in a higher power. That is what I call a God unknown.
As John Lennon sang , about in imagine, I believe that the world will be a better and safer place when religions are replaced by , self control and tolerance.

And that’s all I have to say about that except that those who are most dangerous are those who speak for God and pretend to know the mind of God.
