The 27 Red Sox are certainly the best team for you to choose to dagger out of the four. Their pitching staff is virtually unusable so I want to make sure all those options are there for you. The hitters are not much better but you have to find a way to roster 6 people from this team. Since you are fairly well covered with backup players that I can't dagger from the other squads there is a way to impact this team a little bit.

At SS you have 6 options with 3 of them at $4M, $4.8M, and $5.4M then two from the 27 Red Sox at $3.2M and at $2.8M and Kessinger at $498,249 on the 77 Cards. I am going to dagger Buddy Myer to force you to spend a little more at SS or take Rathrock to pair with Kessinger.

Best of luck!

Don't think you can choose if a hitter or pitcher is selected...anyone fromm that team can be daggered.

Well, midnight, who gave you this garbage team??? The 1977 Toronto Blue Jays have nothing of value past Bob Bailor and he was already stabbed, bagged, and tossed off this trainwreck of a team. How do you hurt a team by removing a weak link? Maybe we can mess with your salary or force you to waste a roster spot on a sub-par player from the Yankees or Tigers, essentially wasting a roster spot. There’s gotta be an option…

Starting with pitching, the Blue Jays best is Pete Vukovich and 149 IP with a 3.80 ERC#. I would probably roster him as my one Blue Jay pitcher. And he can be replaced by LH Mike Willis to save a few bucks. Neither would be a key pitcher so hitting either would not be very impactful.
Moving on to hitters, the Blue Jays have strong armed Alan Ashby and he could be paired with your choice of Indian C’s to platoon with him. But you also have Freehan and Munson. I would think you’re planning on rostering one of them so hitting Ashby may not be the best option if you’re not planning on using him.

At 1B I would roster the Indians’ Vic Wertz and back him up with Eddie Mathews. Hitting the very unimpressive Doug Ault would be pointless. If only I could force you to draft him…

At 2B you have Willie Randolph of the Yankees and you can match him up with either Strickland or Lumpe. Or you could go with Bobby Avila from the Indians. He’s not a bad option for $3.2M and you can grab any of the 3 cheap back-up options you have. Hitting the platoon 2B form Toronto would be a waste.

Now 3B is interesting. The Blue Jays have Roy Howell, a .314/.386/.439 #slash with C+/C- defense and a $3M salary. He could platoon nicely with Larry Raines. Your other options at 3B are Graig Nettles whose $5.7M salary is more for his A/B+ range than it is for his 37 HR’s. I suppose you could use Don Wert but that would be a waste of a Tiger spot. There’s also a Rader/Raines platoon but they’re both RH hitters who offer only a little defense for cheap. Howell is a possibility but let’s keep looking.

Looking at SS I see you only have 4 options for your 2 roster spots. The Blue Jays offer Hector Torrez who is your cheapest option at $1.4M. I’m guessing you’ll go with Carrasquel at SS and although Torres would be an adequate back-up, Oyler is only $129K more. He is a Tiger though and you would waste a spot there. Another possibility.

Finally we get to the OF’s. You have so many options here. Without the Blue Jays you have Jackson, Rivers, White, Colavito, Maris, Woodling, Horton, Kaline, and Northrup. The Blue Jays throw in Fairly and Woods. Neither are standouts and can be easily replaced by any of the others. I can do no damage here.

Well, like I asked in the beginning. How do you hurt a team by removing a weak link. As we’ve just reviewed, this team truly has no one of value left. The best we can do is stab Roy Howell and nudge you towards a decision between $5M+ players.

Good luck!
BeAllEndAll - Well played and a perfect analysis of the dreadful Blue Jays. To answer your question on who gave me that garbage, jbar is your huckleberry. My preferred option at 3rd was Howell, so now I will likely go with Nettles costing me some $$$'s. Mickey Rivers will likely be the "cap casualty." I need to shuffle some deck chairs and my team will likely end up being slow, with poor defense and shaky pitching. What could go wrong? Hopefully Wertz, Reggie, Nettles and Kaline can power the team to a few victories.

jbar8888 is correct, the dagger can hit anyone on the team.

BeAllEndAll is correct in a different way. If the dagger can hit anyone, it can hit a pitcher. But also a batter.

I was pretty surprised to see you found a way to roster both Carew and Bostock along with a dead-weight shortstop. Then I noticed your most expensive pitcher is under $5M, so I suppose there is a way. The offense looks strong anyway!

for a while i toyed with an even stronger offense... but i couldn't get near enough bad innings to add mantle to the mess.

Will be an interesting MVP race between Carew and Ruth. No one else need apply.

There are other 10m hitters out there available for teams who are not in.
We don't often see such hitters in these leagues. Could be exciting.

Lol, I wasn't choosing. More like predicting. But kentol is free to dagger any one of the dreadful ChiSox hitters if he would rather go that route.

I'm hoping Hack Wilson will be in the MVP race.

He's going to have great table setters batting in front of him.

I landed an early draft slot and had my pick of the majority of the good clubs available. I went with the '77 Yanks because of their cost-valued hitting and pitching depth with the only weakness in the bullpen. I was gifted the '77 Blue Jays and the '57 Indians. The Indians had a couple of serviceable pieces, and the Blue Jays may be one of the worst teams in WIS. On the Blue Jays OF Bob Bailor has some value as a hitter and especially because he can play shortstop. If he had not been my first dagger, I probably would have constructed the team with him at short. Since my first team pick was high in the draft my final team pick was low - I really needed to bolster my bullpen. Fortunately, both the '67 Tigers and '77 Cardinals were available and each also offered an excellent starting catcher which gave me insurance in the event Thurman Munson was daggered. I went with the Tigers due to the added bullpen depth plus some additional SP and hitting options. I went with Cleveland Stadium because it can bolster my average staff with a pitcher friendly .94 rating but offers +1 HR ratings in the OF. Hopefully Wertz, Reggie, Nettles, Kaline and McAuliffe will go long often and more often.

OK, BeAllEndAll - You chose the '67 White Sox knowing that quality pitching would be in short supply this time around. How fortunate that your next team (the '67 Mets) while still giving you no offense, manages to set you up with even more useful pitching. To make matters worse, your 3rd team gives you yet another usable SP as well as affordable back-ups at every infield position. I thought the idea was to "screw" your neighbor - not "benefit" your neighbor! For your 4th selection it was simply a matter of waiting for one of those 1927 teams with really good hitters - like maybe the '27 Giants - to fill out your roster. I guess sometimes a plan works out pretty much the way you hope, right?

You're in good shape hitting-wise - with the exception of catching and that extra expense at 1B. And you're loaded with 4 quality SP's and lots of really good relief pitching to choose from. The question is whether you can fit them all in under the $80m cap along with Hornsby's $10.2m price tag.
I looked at daggering one of your big 3 relievers ( Locker, McMahon, and Wilhelm) but figured you'll probably use only 1 or 2 of them anyway. The dagger goes to Gary Peters.

I think you'll have a really good team and should win our division. My only concern is your shortage of decent catching...
