Bridgewater U recruiting summary - Season 26
I was able to sign 4 decent kids and will probably end up with a walk-on. I landed two kids from within the state and two kids from the Carolinas.
James "Up In Flames" Ames comes to Bridgewater from Chatham, VA. He's a 6'-2" PG with superior ball handling skills who averaged 22.8 ppg and shot over 56% last year.
Leroy "Shootin" Newton is also an in-state kid from Madison, VA. He's also a PG and checks in at 6'-1". Newton also averaged over 22 ppg and added 5.5 assists.
James "Scary" Gary is a defensive stopper who hails from Piedmont, SC. James averaged 12.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game last season. He could really benefit from a redshirt season and is a likely candidate to get tagged with one.
Darrell "Double D" Dietrich rounds out this year's class. He is a 5'-9" SG from Marshall, NC. A nice all around player with a 3.0 GPA who I expect will really make an impact by his sophomore season.
All in all it turned out to be a decent class (sans the walk-on who will be a turd and will never see the floor). You will be able to get an early look at this talent as Bridgewater U is participating in Midnight Madness this year. This will be the first of many attempts to generate student/fan interest and raise the D+ homecourt advantage. Also slated to take place this season - Free Taco Night, and Wet T-Shirt Night.

Roanoke Recruiting Summary - Season 26
Harold Wilson SG (Uvalde, TX) - Wilson will bring much needed speed to the perimeter of Roanoke's new fastbreak offense. He's got a good shooting touch, nice handle, and acceptable passing skills. He doesn't put in much effort on defense, but we're hoping he can get by on speed alone. Wilson will likely redshirt his freshman season.
Stanley Newby SG (Baltimore, MD) - Newby is another speedy guard who should help the Roanoke perimeter. He's a better defender than Wilson, but doesn't have the natural offensive abilities that Harold Wilson has. He'll spend this season backing up Robert Johnson at the 2-spot.
Daniel Andersen SF (Evans, GA) - Like Wilson and Newby, Andersen has good speed and should put it to use in the run-and-gun style that Roanoke plans on using this season. He's a good all-around player, with acceptable athleticism, rebounding, low-post, perimeter, and passing skills. He has excellent ball-handling skills.
James Tuten C (Thomasville, NC) - While not as speedy as his backcourt teammates, Tuten brings nice athleticism to the Roanoke frontcourt. His rebounding and low-post skills need development, but he does have an above average jumper for a big man. Hopefully he'll be able to put that to use in a year or two.

Washington & Lee Recruiting Summary -- Season 26
Irvin "The Preacher" Frierson PG (Summerville, Ga) 467 - Recruiting pundits were shocked when Coach whunt1 announced that the Generals had signed 5'10", 165lb PG from Chattaoga HS. After bringing in two PG's last season, no one, not even those closest to the W&L program expected to see another PG brought in so soon. Frierson is raw in several areas; his athleticism (27) and speed (44) will be a challenge for him in the Generals scrambling FCP defense and may make things difficult in the transition from the triangle offense to W&L's complicated & evenly distributed motion offense. On the flip side, General coaches are ecstatic about him being a tenacious defender and are confident that his footwork and fundamental defensive skills will evetually wreak havoc on opposing backcourts.
"In the end, we saw an opportunity to bring in a lockdown defender (72) who has solid ballhandling (65) & passing (53) skills and decided as a staff we couldn't let that chance pass us by." Frierson, like the other two PG's on the roster, sophomores Harold Webster and Paul Henley, needs to have an outstanding pre-season to solidify the back-up PG spot to Sr. guard Joseph Lee who will start the season at the point for W&L.
"California Dreamin' " Melvin Morant SF (Chino, CA) 454 - It has been two years since Washington & Lee has recruited a SF. In fact, the only two SF's over the last 6 seasons to see playing time are junior swing man Robert Stucker and Richard Hooper, the starter on W&L's Season 22 National Title team. Traditionally, the SF spot is a tough one to fill at this level and no one knows that more than Coach whunt1.
"I love a great SF. Their versatility is phenomenal. But, here at Washington & Lee, we refuse to recruit a SF just for the sake of having a SF. If a guy cant come in & make significants contributions by the midway point of his sophomore season, we will not recruit him at that position. I'd rather have a reliable big man or a quality guard than a project SF," Coach Hunt advised ODAC media gathered at the annual pre-season coaches conference.
In Morant, the Generals look to have a guy that will make signfican contributions. Already penciled in to be Stucker's backup, Morant makes the cross-country trip with outstanding potential but already solid credentials. His rebounding (48) & defense (45) are qualities that should make him an all star before his General career is up and when his perimeter (41) skills comes around, Morant should make other defenses very nervous.
Russell Rast "Afarian" C (Independence, Mo) 454 - Washington & Lee has long been known for their agressive and punishing big men who like to rebound the basketball and create havoc for opposing offensive players. Rast, effectionately being called the Rastafarian Man around the Lexington, Va campus, fits that mold perfectly. For the better part of the recruiting season, Rast was the best rebounder (68) on the board and his ability to block shots (62) made him a hotly contested recruit.
But, the Generals, worried about his seemingly low athleticism (16) and speed (24), were hesitant to pull the trigger and signing Rast. After his one and only official visit, Coach Hunt decided to take a chance on his rough around the edges low post game (51) and offered rast the last of his four scholarships. "Rast will eventually be a good player for us," Coach Hunt said. " I see him finishing his career as a 90+ rebounder and a high 70's, low 80's low post player. You give me a guy with those numbers in D3 and I'll give you a national tourney team...every time."
Danny Lindemann "A Hand" C (Evansville, Ill.) Lindemann, the Generals redshirt candidate for Season 26, brings a working knowledge of the motion offense and raw skills to the Lexington campus. "Danny is relatively athletic (26) for his size and brings a solid work ethic (61) to the floor. We anticipate him getting bigger and stronger under our strength and conditioning program and see him making solid contributions to our club sometime late in season 27 and especially in season 28," Coach Hunt said. "With five years in our program, Danny will end up a 90-90 guy guaranteed. I'll be very surprised if this guy isn't at least a second-team all-conference player by the time he leaves here."

Lynchburg Recruiting Analysis Season 26
Eric "Master" Bates (C 463) - Chaparral HS, Parker, CO - Eric was brought in to shore up the rebounding and we are hopeful that his solid work ethic will overcome his obvious deficiencies in other key areas. He could become a solid scorer in 3 years if his work ethic pans out as expected and will be able to control the boards by then as well. There was some thought that Eric could be used as both a PF and C and would benefit from a redshirt, but that is not likely at the moment.
Victor "White Shadow" White (SG 431) - Crestline HS, Crestline, OH - Victor brings solid speed and athleticism to go with adequate defensive skills as the Hornets try to keep up with Joneses and move toward a pressing defense. Victor is also a solid ballhandler, passer, and shooter and should become a major contributer later in his career. He does not project to do much in his freshman season and might benefit from a redshirt year to round out his game a little more and prolong his career.
This was a poor recruiting season by coach barretchap as he missed out on a very good center as he was outmaneuvered by coach gopokes24 at Texas Lutheran (Peter "Traitor" Wildenberg). Wildenberg was ready to consider the Hornets, but coach barretchap tried to push through a redshirt and did not pull it off. He next turned his attention to "King" Arthur Garrison, a PF from Texas, and again tried to push the redshirt through, but Garrison would have nothing of it and declined the scholarship offer. When the redshirt was pulled off, Garrison indicated he could not wait to start playing immediately, but by declining the scholarship he had sealed his own fate and was destined for a two year school.
EDIT: White took the redshirt

E. Mennonite Recruiting Analysis Season 26
Recruiting this season seemed down across the board. Hoosierchap was disappointed to get out recruited on several very good players including Russell Rast, who signed with W&L, and David Chamlee, who signed with Washington U. (MO). We feel that we have signed a good class and higher than what has been reported by some as the #48 class in DIII. Do we really need to know that?
Scott Hodgkins
SG (449) 6'2" 193 lbs.
Ashland, Kansas
Scott will likely split time between SG and SF during his first few seasons coming off the bench to provide a spark when needed. The staff thinks a redshirt would suit him well, but noting his lack of strong work ethic the head coach thinks he is better suited to play immediately.
Porter "Tater" Andrews
C (483) 6'8" 213 lbs.
Dearborn Heights, Michigan
Porter is a little light, so the coaching staff has recommened a potato-a-day diet in an attempt to bulk him up this season. The vets now call him "Tater". I hope he likes the nickname. The staff likes Porter and believe that he has the stuff to be an all-american if he works hard. His mom was just excited to see him leave the greater Detroit area as she feared that he would not go to college and instead decide to work in the auto industry.
Ted Clarke
C (457) 6'5" 218 lbs.
Newell, South Dakota
The staff tried to convince Ted that he needed a redshirt year during the recruiting process and while he liked the Royals, he was not too keen on sitting the pine for a season. After we spent $5k to convince him otherwise, the staff was forced to change its approach and offer him 10 minutes to get him to sign in the last cycle. Ted should be an very able contributor at both C and PF. We are hoping that his FT shooting rubs off on the rest of the guys.
Redshirt
The staff is working hard to convince PG Jeffrey Elkins to redshirt, but even with two guys ahead of him the sophomore seems to think that he will see lots of floor time this year. Since Jeffrey was unwilling, we have redshirted Porter Andrews.

Virginia Wesleyan Recruiting Analysis, Season 26
The Marlins only had 2 openings this season and filled them with multi-talented players with a certain aversion to practice.
Joseph Ruth is a 6'3" SF from Ketchikan, Alaska. Ruth boasts excellent raw skills, although his offensive game needs some refinement. Unfortunately, Ruth has a weak worth ethic and coaches anticipate butting heads with him repeatedly. Hopefully getting immediate minutes as a backup SF will help that.
Jeffery Pellegrini is a well rounded 6'5" PF from Rutherfordton, NC. VWC coaches are trying to convince him that a redshirt season would really help his game. It is expected that he will develop into a player capable of skillfully manning either forward spot.

Season 26 Predictions
East
1. Eastern Mennonite - reloads again for yet another NT bid and likely to push for a return to conference tournament glory; involved in Washeonta tournament = toughest schedule in the league and maybe the nation - may face 10 tournament teams in non-conference play....5-5 would be a major victory, anything better provides the Royals with a better seed
2. Guilford - Quakers are a perennial NT team, you can practically pencil them in every year that colville is not frustrated by the randomness of the game; rebounding a little down for the usual Quaker team but still solid; 4 tough teams in non-conference schedule with a couple of relative newcomers that could be dangerous, but expect to see 7-10 wins for the Quakers
3. Lynchburg - not a great rebounding team, but entire conference seems to be down so the Hornets may get by, press experiment won't play out until the end of the year; good non-conference slate could translate into NT with a winning record, PI if close to .500, or season's over before conference play begins - may have overscheduled again
4. Emory & Henry - going to be dangerous this year, low overall ratings but very good in core skills; could push for postseason bid with 3-5 non-conference wins due to very tough schedule and some winnable road games
5. Bridgewater - good overall ratings, but not as solid in core skills; still could push for postseason bid, but who's who of Iba in first 3 games could put the Eagles in an early hole - tough schedule should translate to PI bid if the Eagles can stay close to .500
6. Hampden-Sydney - still building and is getting much closer, but still likely a year away; balanced schedule with some winnable games and some tough opponents but needs a very good record in non-conference to raise postseason hopes
West
1. Washington & Lee - can't pick against this perennial NT team who hasn't seen a conference finish below 2nd in what seems like forever; solid all-around schedule that could determine the ODAC's RPI finish versus MIAA, 7 wins would be a very good start to the season
2. (tie) Washington & Jefferson - solid all-around team that I would like to pencil in as at least a PI team however....wow, what a brutal schedule!; involved in Silver Stakes preseason touney that has placed every team in it in the postseason so far, survival of the first 10 games with 2-3+ wins would be fantastic and would lead to an almost sure PI bid even with a losing record, 5+ wins should equal an NT bid
2. (tie) Virginia Wesleyan - solid core skills on this team with low durability and low work ethic which may hurt over the course of the year or in subsequent years, but looks good for the postseason with current ratings; schedule seems to be filled with many winnable games against teams without major postseason history, game against Redlands should indicate where the Marlins really stand
4. Bethany - the miracle Bethany teams seem to be a thing of the past, but it was a team with similar ratings that made the magical run; lots of early road tests against fair competition should help the RPI but needs a very strong start to sniff the postseason, has been a burr in the side of W&L which could boost postseason hopes
5. Randolph-Macon - secret member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association has a lot of seasoned veterans which makes this team a major wildcard; I don't believe the schedule will provide a solid SOS or RPI even with a number of wins, may need to see 8-10 wins and a winning record in conference play to eke out a postseason bid
6. Roanoke - fairly young team that looks to be reaching its pinnacle next year, but there is some potential here that could surprise; the schedule looks to have a number of winnable games, but tests with Plymouth St. and Hendrix should reveal the real Maroons this year
CT: Eastern Mennonite
COY: johncannon (if improvement makes a big difference), otherwise I'll go with hoosierchap
POY: Curtis Gamble, Guilford
NT: Eastern Mennonite, Guilford, Washington & Lee, Lynchburg
PI: Washington & Jefferson, Virginia Wesleyan

Emory & Henry Recruiting Analysis
I know I'm late to the game here, but I just read some of the others and they made me chuckle, and that got me motivated ...
Calvin "Klein" Robinson - A senior practice player that was given a scholarship to keep carryover money for next season, the multi-talented Robinson is best known for his brilliant work on the 'What's Goin' Down' episode of "That's My Momma". Robinson is also a half decent free throw shooter who worked as a male escort to put himself through janitorial school.
Calvin Robinson appears thoroughly
frightened while attempting to drive.
Anthony "Lil' Mac" McGregor - At 6'3" and 201 pounds, Mac may not be your prototypical small forward. In fact, he may not even be a good small forward. But like our women and our burgers, he was cheap, fast and available. He also once finished third-runner up in a Detlef Schrempf look-a-like contest. Seriously, he still has the ribbon. Just ask him.
The dimunitive McGregor enjoys crisp
chest passes, Oprah and long walks on
the beach.
Jeffery "Cokie" Roberts - Was brought in as a space-filler to shore up the rebounding and ... well, that's about it. Rumors flew around the Emory, VA campus that the coaches actually forgot about recruiting and Roberts (who also answers to the nickname "Bip") was part of what they scavenged with only minutes to spare. But between mouthfuls of Haagen Dazs, the portly power forward was unfazed: "I'm just happy not to be working at the Kwikie Mart any more".
Roberts lives by a simple creed:
"You gonna finish those pork chops?"
