I think the guys who got a really good Mathewson or Alexander in Round 1 and then were still able to get a good Ruth/Gehrig combo in Round 2 or 3 are ahead of the game here. Wish I was thinking beyond "OOH, AWESOME RUTH AND GEHRIG!" from the start

I thought I was doing OK. Instead I'm going to get smoked!

Don't worry. Those stats will be mitigated by poor management.

How many PA's is that, schwarze? I won't list my whole team, but my top 8 hitters are at 5240 PA/.327/.434/.571 for $60.1M. I'll have to use a portion of Tim Raines 1983 PA's -- adding in all of them we go to 5960/.323/.429/.552 for $66.0M.

On the pitching side, I have 1219 IP/2.57/.216/1.05 for $42.1M-- still need innings (and some good normalization!) -- my starters don't look nearly as good as yours, but I do have 200 innings of reasonably studly relief.

Normalization is key. The pitchers I expect to use are at 1515 IP/2.02/.203/.97. Normalized, though, they're not as good because I've got a Mathewson and a couple guys from '68. We'll see how it plays out.

Of my 8 hitters, only Javy Lopez is not full-time... so I will have to either use another teammate like Bresnahan (cut McDowell) or a lower-quality Bench.

Many of my numbers are also overstated because or normalization (1905 Mathewson, 1915 Alexander, 1960's Gibson, Seibert, McDowell) plus 1930 Gehringer, Ott, Lindstrom.

As far as having Ruth/Gehrig (1928 version) to go along with my Alexander/Mathewson, I kind of wish I hadn't made that pick. I would have surely taken 1893 Delahanty with that pick and also probably have taken the stud Gehringer/Greenberg season in the next round or two. And even if I hadn't, I would have then got to use the .400 hitting Bill Terry. I also have a stud Mike Donlin season that I have to cut. Basically, locking up 1B so early killed some really great teammate options.

I'm shooting for a 1st round draft pick next season.

My 8 starters .318 .424 .581 59M

My best pitchers IP 1,473 WHIP 1.00 HR/9 0.27 50.5M

I was real happy with that until seeing schwarze numbers. I'm sure getting a later Ruth hurt my SLG number. 840 of my innings normalize about 0.07 WHIP higher because it's 1888.

1939 Charlie Gehringer

I dont feel as bad now about my team as I did earlier. I still need to cobble some more at-bats onto my team, but right now my hitting line stands at .338/.452/.587 but I still need to add about 1000 at bats.

My pitching is at 0.97 WHIP / 0.40 HR per 9 in 1260 IP between 4 starters and 2 relievers. Maybe I will be able to compete a little.

Good grab. That's 200 great filler innings off the board.

Time to pick up my Ruth and complete my everyday lineup 1929 Babe Ruth.

Would'a been my next pick (Gibson, that is).

I had lived on the edge long enough and was too nervous to continue - apparently with good reason.
