2. Toddleduc- What went into picking your team?

We consulted one another via sitemail with a breakdown of the 3 best options (Phils, Mets, & A's)

Ultimately the "Great Decider" was the Analysis of the main 3 things a team needs to win.

(# 1) SP- There were 11 choices that fit the criteria, Koosman stood out slightly, but not overwhelmingly. ERC+ Kingman was #2 behind Koosman's 130 @ 102.

(# 2) SomeOffense- The 1977 Mets offense on paper seemed anemic and incapable of posing much of a thread. There was no way in hell I wanted Koosman with that pathetic offense. I figured they would score 1-3 runs a game on average.
I liked the Phillies offense for some pop, but they had horrible corner range D- and D-. The A's offense looked damn good too, with better OF range and a kick *** bullpen. I figured the 1980 A's would score 4-6 runs at least per game against either Koosman or Carlton.

1980 A's- BEST LINEUP of the 3:

1. Rickey Henderson (LF) 9 HR's- .303 / .420 / .399 100 SB / 26 CS 91 speedB/A+
2. Dwayne Murphy (CF) 13 HR's- .274 / .384 / .380 88 speed A-/A+
3. Dave Revering (1B) 412 PA-15 HR's- .290 / .344 / .492 AB/K- 10.16 (doesn't K much)
4. Tony Armas (RF) 35 HR's- .279 / .310 / .500 67 speed C/A-
5. Wayne Gross (3B) 419 PA's- 14 HR's- .281 / .355 / .467 AB/K- 9.38 (doesn't K much)

Question-- HOW DID THIS LINEuP GET SHuTDOWN SO EASILY by mediocre pitching ?? over the several games ??? I won my game with Kingman... but just barely after an 8 inning 1-1 tie and a lucky top of the 9th, pinch hit for Kingman go-ahead run on an error to set up a Norris 9th inning save.

(# 3) THE BEST Bullpen of the 3 teams- 1980 Cy Young candidate Mike Norris was one hell of an asset-- probably the best pitcher on any of the 3 teams in this & could conceivably finish off a lead from the 6th inning on. In fact- 1980 A's had probably 4 starters besides Kingman to back him up that ALL had better stats than Carlton or Koosman. And w/ y Bob Lacy-- 5 legitamate good relievers that could pitch for 30 innings if need be...

1980 Mike Norris- 285 innings. (22-9) 2.53 ERA. 1.05 WHIP. .209 OAV.
1980 Matt Keough- 250 IP. (16-13) 2.92 ERA. 1.25 WHIP. .236 OAV.
1980 Steve McCatty- 222 IP. (14-14) 3.86 ERA. 1.36 WHIP .240 OAV.
1980 Rick Langford- 290 IP. (19-12) 3.26 ERA. 1.17 WHIP .255 OAV.

1980 Bob Lacey (L) - 80 IP. 2.94 ERA. 1.12 WHIP. .234 OAV 5.08 K / 2.37 BB

All 3 of these things collectively made the A's a natural choice. Kingman was as solid as anyone. The offense looked like it could score a few easily. The pen was deeper and better with stud Norris than the other 2. I'm STILL wondering how the hell we lost...

Congrats again PL for somehow getting it done.

Actually, I should be a target because I am 0-2. I played a bunch of practice games between the A's and the Mets and the Mets probably won 2 out of 3 even with me playing the A's. We all agreed on the team, mainly due I think to having Norris clean up any leads. Unfortunately, I played the perfect strategy and still got beat 'cause Norris blew the save. We still have experienced LIVE players, I would like to see toddleduc lead us to a victory in the next challenge!

The PL may be 2nd in the standings, but 1st in team chemistry!! Watching everyone else bicker is making me psyched about my teammates...

Thanks, tajohn for the kind words.

I watched your game pitch to pitch. You played it perfectly.
You got the lead, brought in Norris to finish it off... but Norris gave up 2 runs... you got 1 of them back and were threatening in the 9th... once again-- I think the A's should have scored more runs in ALL of these games. Really suprised they didn't. I don't know of ANYONE in the A's lineup that really stepped up and did anything to help the team score any runs in any one game or over all of the games.

3. Bastanredsox- Another challenge another near miss, is the tribe snake bitten?

I would say a little. I know a lot of hard work between us talking went into which team was the best, and I would say a lot of us thought we had a pretty good chance to win this challenge. Like todd said, still have no idea how we lost this. I also would say, a lot of teamwork went into while games were being played, I know tajohn told me that our dh could catch, and he hit a 2 run homer to win my game, so have to give him a little credit there. All in all though, I think the tribe is a little snake-bitten because we really wanted this one, but I think we will come out fighting in the next challenge.

"First time for the tribe at tribal council, is it safe to say the game starts now?"

No, the game started with the first challenge, in which as a "team" we won, but then threw away the advantage by not communicating. Now for the first time someone from our tribe is getting the boot because of it.

Aljon "Did you pick the Expos team that was ineligible on your own or was it suggested to you?"

Thank you knee for asking this question, it wasn't answered for me when I asked, I am really confused as to how this came about. We had first pick and should have won this challenge!!!

Been too busy with work the past week to notice. I haven't seen any bickering or split, but I also haven't been online much for a few days. The chemistry in the AL tribe is fine; we just need some binary karma.

Eman7400- Your tribe is now going to be one person behind each of the other tribes, does that worry you?

It doesnt worry me that much we got a good group here and im sure its going to even out over the next couple of weeks

The key to this game is survive and advance - and after a strong first round perhaps we need to circle the wagons and get back on track without pointing the finger at each other.

I was surprised I didn't get asked about winning two games despite a tough hurdle - now THAT is a topic I'd like to discuss.
I thought my question was going to revolve around this as well.

2. deltagorfers- You and acketyack won not once but twice this round, are you safe?

I'd like to think so, wins are very valuable at this stage in the game and I now have 3 in 2 weeks. I hope that counts for something. On the other hand if people are getting too far ahead of the game and consider me a threat then yeah I could be voted out. Nothing is guarunteed.

7. acketyack- Do you think it was a smart choice to send the player who came through in the clutch last round to exile this round?

Our captain asked for volunteer. foolish volunteered. IMO there's nothing wrong with that.

3.aljon1331- Did you pick the Expos team that was ineligible on your own or was it suggested to you?

I'll respond to this one too. aljon asked for suggestions from everybody on the tribe. I suggested the Expos and Mets to aljon. Mistakingly I used the search criteria of 0-15 W for pitchers. Rogers had 15 wins and 20+ losses. My mistake there. Should aljon have caught it? Most likely. Should someone else on the team have spoken up when aljon messaged the team that we were going with the Expos? Most definitely. The decision of the Expos was made on the 24th. The challenge didnt begin until the 25th. This was a team failure, not one or two people.

Exactly it wasn't our captains choice to send me I knew knee had Parvati waiting as a surprise guest so of course I volunteered

but I swear with all that went on in the last round I sure did miss being part of it
